Firing up some elders

Well, after finally installing oblivion and morrowind on my computer (new one when I went to uni ages ago), I discovered the sin that is unmodded elder scrolls. Well ok, not quite sinful.

Any recommendations for mods to get for either? The mod sites I find all seem to have pointless things as the top mod such as replacing a grass texture (oh my GOD essential!)

Also, so this isn't just a boring mod list, describe your best oblivion or morrowind moment! Screenies win.

Look through the recommended mods section on the Oblivion Mod Wiki. There's one called OOO, Oscuro's Oblivion Overhaul, that's kind of an unofficial patch, fixing all sorts of balance issues. I remember playing it and being quite happy that rats no longer had like 1000 hit points and were actually killable.

There are various AI mods, specifically ones that make the AI less psychic.

Just look through each category and get whatever seems good to you...it'll take a while but it should be worth it.

Can't help with Oblivion, but you will want at least Better Bodies. And probably, by extension, Better Clothes.

Most of the other mods I have aren't as compulsory as BB is, with stuff like changing "fatigue" to "stamina", other random name changes, GCD (which makes levelling more gradual), Mog*Mod and a slew of random armour, weapons and other miscellaneous bits.
Hey, Blue? I'm loving the things you do. From the very first time, the fight you fight for will always be mine.

hmm alright, been browsing for a while now and I tend to just get "XYZ's super magic house in the middle of nowhere with a super overpowered weapon in it" mod.

Morrowind Graphics Extender does some pretty neat things, might want to check that out.

All of the recommended mods are listed together at the bottom of the page. Natural Environments is an essential one for improving atmosphere. Oh, and Natural Faces is good, too.

Was reading some comments on natural environments, doesn't it go totally haywire? There were tons of complaints about the weather changing every few seconds. But might as well give it a try, hadn't tried it on my other comp.

Better Bodies is a must for Morrowind, there's a version for Oblivion too, but I don't remember what it's called.

I'll compile the list of what I use in a few.

Oblivion would be so much better if you could play coop.. :(

Single player ARPGs just aren't as much fun.

It's alright, having a bit of fun so far, but some more mods would certainly brighten things up.

There's this gem of a mod that adds cats into all the towns! :)

There's a mod out there that allows that. Something about netcoding in the oblivion game that was never finished. The version that I last saw was pretty beta, but it allowed you to play around in the gameworld with one other person.
