These furry pests have gone too far, they had this coming.

Did you? It's about hamsters. Being banned. I found that funny, because they're pretty harmless. No?

The goverment suspects they're being illegally imported, unchecked, and could carry diseases that could kill a lot of things.

You make it sound like it's a complete lark but border control is there for a reason.

Sorry, captain serious.

Won't happen again. Next time I'll just keep to myself and avoid ever posting anything that might appear slightly funny at face value.

I was disappointed when it turned out to be hamsters rather than "furry pests."

As in furries.

They're banning hamsters.

The concept is silly.
Hey, Blue? I'm loving the things you do. From the very first time, the fight you fight for will always be mine.

Not when there's an epidemiological concern or things of that sort.

Well, banning certain types of pet fish here in America may seem silly. One might say where's the harm when they stay in tanks. But when imported, exotic fish do manage to be released in our waters, the effects on the ecosystem and the quality of the water can be grave.

What I don't understand, is that the article implies that $1900 is nearly double the average annual wage. It then goes on to say that people are spending $10-$20 on each hamster...

So the median annual income in the US is 48,000. We can guess the Vietnam income at like $1200, which is probably generous. So our income is 40 times larger... which means they're spending the equivalent of $400-$800 per hampster...

Did I miss something?
2008-03-08, 12:34 PM #16
Perhaps thats the average income for the average Vietnamese, but in the cities, the income might be much higher.

$98,000 being caught with a hamster.

Not even a smile? (Well I found it funny :( )
