I kind of want an N95, after I saw the pictures that one guy took. They look pretty sweet.

Not a whole lot, which is a good thing for me. They added GPS and some more memory. It seems to be a bit faster too, so maybe a better processor? Moved the thumbwheel from the side to the main direction button on the front so it's easy to use for lefties. Oh yeah, and Windows Mobile 6.

When better games come out for the iPhone, I might consider buying one, or just an iPod touch. Spore is supposed to come out for the iPhone as well.

It's less functional than most pocket pc phones, and costs way more money. LOGIC?

(k, it's got a big hard drive.. buy a bloody micro sd for $15.)

BB's are a bad, bad example.

1. Yes the iPhone UI makes more sense to you.. because it's simpler. more user friendly.

2. LESS POWERFUL.

3. Windows Mobile. (especially on the HTC Shadow)

(btw, the shadow does literally everything the iPhone does, only less memory.. and the camera's not quite as good. it costs $149.99 with new service. The iPhone costs $400. I'm not saying the iPhone is a bad phone. Just that it's a waste of money.)

Simple and user friendly don't have to mean that its "less powerful." Also, you make it sound like User friendly is a bad thing. My biggest complaints about the other phones were the small icons that I would only know their meaning by guessing/exploring.

Why is a blackberry a bad example though? I'm telling you what I've used and didn't like. That should at least put an iphone above a blackberry :p

Compromising usability for power is a strong sign of incompetent UI design.

am i the only one whose primary expectation for a phone is that it should be able to make calls wherever i happen to be? (not in the middle of nowhere obviously, but say in the basement of the school i go to for instance.)

No. I only use my phone for calls / texts.

The convenience of google maps on your phone though is really nice. (I do keep a few maps in my car though)

Is the Shadow touch-based?

PS, any phone over "free" is pretty much a waste of moneys.

oh, no shadow is not a touch phone.. forgot that. but it doesn't really need to be.

and emon. you're right, i agree 100%. but i didn't say otherwise.

and pat.. yeah google maps is awesome. but it's not just on the iphone. you can get it for any windows mobile phone or any blackberry. i have it on my htc mda (windows mobile 5).

the iPhone looks nice and has a good UI. Those are two very important criteria given that I'm sick of having ugly phones with bad UI.

I've been using the same phone for so long I can't even remember what it's called. It has a monochrome screen and makes phonecalls. I don't see why I'd need anything more. :colbert:

great ui, best voicemail interface ever, real web browser, can plug into the ipod connector in my car and play music through the car radio, awesome threaded sms, awesome games coming out for it (and some already on it, thanks to the jailbreak community, awesome google maps interface with location...

lots of stuff that make it the best phone ever. and just the little attention to detail things that apple does. like when you press play on a voicemail, it doesn't actually start playing until you hold the phone up to your ear. freaking awesome.

I've got a Nokia 6310i, it was 3rd hand when I got it in 2004, I think it's a 2002 model at least, if not older. It's a great simple phone, monochrome screen but slim and quite robust. Apparently they sell for over a hundred quid on eBay these days because they're so popular with businesses and they no longer make them.

Before that it was a Motorola M3788 brick that a friend gave to me, by the time I received it the aerial was broken off, it had fire damage in one corner after a fire-walking incident and it had been dropped repeatedly. It even survived a swim in a pint glass and an impromptu football match with it briefly starring as the football. It's indestructible. They'll dig it up in a thousand years and it'll still work once charged :P
