Now I realise this be a Star Wars based forum first and foremost, but having just done a quick lap of the Search option there's not a sausage for either Doctor Who or Torchwood.

Now I know they come out in the US, albeit belatedly, on at least the Sci-Fi Channel, so what gives people, any Time Lords out there? I need someone not-necessarily-British to rant about Season 30 to for some perspective.

Is Torchwood playing on SciFi? I do enjoy both the original Doctor Who and the new series.

I saw Torchwood DVD's for sale in Barnes and Nobles but before I purchased them I decided I would ask around. I went online and asked a few Brits what they thought of it, but the guys I asked never heard of it. Granted I wasnt asking SciFi buffs, but I figured if the series was really good even Joe Public should have heard some buzz.

I'm waiting for Doctor Who here in the States. Supposed to be aired when Battlestar Galactica airs. Which is in 2018.
Code to the left of him, code to the right of him, code in front of him compil'd and thundered. Programm'd at with shot and $SHELL. Boldly he typed and well. Into the jaws of C. Into the mouth of PERL. Debug'd the 0x258.

Man, they showed the first season (pfft series) of the new Doctor Who here in Russia back in 2006-early 2007 but it didn't get enough viewers so they stopped airing it... at the moment they're airing the original series on some pay TV channel.

I don't know, but I kind of feel okay with that situation since the 10th Doctor seemed really lame judging by that Christmas special whereas the 9th was pretty great. Oh well.

Pfft, the christmas ones are MEGACHEESE, I quite like tennant.

To summarise my views - The next series is going to suck thanks to Catherine Effing Tate. :argh:

Oh and torchwood is... ok. It's not exactly great/good but I still watch it.
nope.

american here. i enjoy torchwood enormously. perhaps its my mancrush on john barrowman though. i think its cool how they bring the extraordinary down to a human level. the dialogue in the second series is cheesier than in the first series though. with lots of ribbing ianto and jack about thier affair.

Torchwood's second series has been playing a week behind britain on BBC america. two weeks now since the double episode a while back.

also david tennant is awesome, and baco is right, i have some reservations about catherine tate in the new series (to be starting in may?)

I heard Torchwood was kind of gay, yes or no?
2008-03-20, 1:25 PM #13
I saw one Episode of torchwood and was hooked, same with Doctor Who, however the show is on at really strange times over here.

'Kind of gay' would be an understatement. I believe the writer {{the main one anyway}} is gay and clearly felt that the notion 'write what you know' was a good approach {{also considering the many rip-offs featured in the show}}.

Despite this, the show's great and in some respects I prefer it even more than Dr Who, not only because Captain Jack is one cool *******, but I like the whole 'team' thing more than the individual. Dr Who is fantastic though, I just like Torchwood a bit more, I guess. I'd prefer it without all of the sexual throw-ins, but meh.

Don't get me wrong, Captain Jack being gay. Fine. He's still cool. But the blatant sexual references that're constantly roaming would even get annoying on a heterosexual level. You'd think that the main point of the storylines was to see who gets bedded per episode.

But anyway, both are well worth watching. Sorry I'm a Brit {{common sense points for anyone that worked that out}}, so I can't offer that 'over the puddle opinion', but since Dr Who and Torchwood are British shows through and through, so it wouldn't really matter how well the show did anywhere else because the BBC are making bucket loads from the franchise over here as it is. Hell, I bought my gf a Dr Who watch thing and The Master's screwdriver {{avoid blatant sexual references here.}} for her birthday. Thumbs up to the consumer whore in me!

captain jack is multisexual. he'd **** anything sentient he found attractive. he just happens to be into ianto right now.

I think Torchwood is pretty awesome - it's grittier and darker than Doctor Who but does wear its adult status a little bit on its sleeve. It can never hope to steal Who's thunder, but is very good nonetheless.

That sucks, but us Britlanders have to have something first.

The Christmas Specials can be a bit off, but Tennant's a fun Doctor, Ecclestone was very much 'I am serious Shakespearean actor,' hence he only did 13 episodes, whereas Tennant clearly loves being The Doctor.

Tate and Tennant are confirmed guests on Friday Night with Jonathan Ross on April 4th, so yeah, most likely 5th if we're lucky.
