I'm wondering whether I should move on to another game engine :)

Nope. I still feel like finishing Anonymous someday but recreating it for a new engine (AKA UE3) would be a far better choice :P

I would try JK editing for sh*ts and giggles, mainly because I always get a vibe from the graphics of 90s games. But I don't have a working JK.exe (but all the rest of the files) and not bothering myself of torrenting a new one. I still have JA projects to complete. I do want to try editing of newer games...but alot of it comes down to if there are editing communities that are supportive and time.

Plus, new games + laptop isn't exactly the best way to go, although its a decent laptop.

Not me. I haven't had Jedi Knight installed in a long time. Plus, I rarely boot Windows if I were to get in the mood for some reason. Let's not forget 60hr per week between work and school. :saddowns: I miss it though.

I play with it now and then, but nothing ever sparks enough interest for me to keep at it.

I am however working on a TF2 capture point level... slow progress, but i dont have a lot of time.

I still want to try an original gameplay variant I thought up a few years ago, but it always slips my mind for years at a time. Some day I'll get around to it.

Yeah, I chose that wording for it's stereotypical connotations. There actually is a chance I'll work on it this summer, though, now that I don't have a girlfriend.

Well better get to work on them soon, before everyone who owns jk loses their discs. It will happen - one day.

I personally hope Magrucko remains the last level ever submitted. But you know, I've jinxed myself by typing that.

I'm so behind on new games. Is portal out yet? That seemed interesting. Unreal 3 I haven't heard of, though I saw a video from a lego mod on youtube which looked pretty fun - if a bit pointless! Not the same as using build hack playing the gantry level on MOTS though, is it? :P

Halucid suddenly talked to me the other day, and wants to finish it.

While it'd be cool for people to finally see how good I once was at gameplay flow, I think it's a waste of time at this juncture. I'd love to remake even the bare bones in Q3 so I could show off my idea of flow.

Actually, you've probably got the ability to do that for me, Echoman...

I always wanted to make an Anachronox-style Star Wars comedy Machinema or however you're supposed to spell that. The Space Adventures of Kyle Katarn! It would have been *so* hardcore.

I don't think it's a waste of time. I occasionally reinstall and play older games that I remember have great SP expierences. Great add on level like the AK Piggot levels, etc., add to the expierence. I think the bar has just been raised so high that unless someone releases an extremely high quality level it just doesn't get any appreciation.

Having said that, the main reason to do a level is the personal satisfaction involved. Relatively speaking, I didn't do that much in the DF Level Condition Red but it was an honor to be co-listed with Jereth and Peter. Those were the good old days...

I pop JK in and play it every once in awhile. There's something about that game that newer games just don't have. I don't know what it is, but I still love the the first level of Nar Shadda.

I have a few projects on a backup harddrive that I never completed, but were pretty far along. I had a SP campaign called 'The Force in Your Soul" that I had about half done before I lost interest and a few mods, one where you could choose between dual sabers, single saber, or lightstaff in MP.

I might go back and work on them sometime, but I don't see it happening anytime soon.
2008-03-25, 12:41 AM #25
I play once in awhile, but my projects all sit unfinished. I still plan to finish them someday, and I still think of new ideas with alarming frequency.

There are some awesome work created for JO/JA. The games did have some really cool mods and new maps.

It never took off at Massassi but no one cares about uploading anything. Other places, it prospered. Much of the reason why Massassi editing community is pretty much dead for JO/JA is just the site didn't bother with keeping up with updates or new developments.

The reason it was such a success with JK was largely due to Brian and his initial editing tutorials, then its eventual huge list of tutorials.

Yes. Usually sites with tutorials are beacons to newcomers who want to try out editing. For examples, JO/JA editing is still active at sites such as www.map-craft.com and was at places (in the past before server crash) www.map-review.com thanks to their wealth of editing information along with seasoned editors.
