And the Darwin award for 2008 goes to..

Whoever the hell this guy was.

Apparently about a week ago, a ground crew member for singapore airlines was sucked into the engine of a 737 while retrieving the main gear chocks.

He was retarded because there is a GIANT RED FLASHING WARNING LIGHT indicating you have NO BUSINESS NEAR THE ENGINES on ALL AIRCRAFT. Infact, the engines were running at idle. Why he thought it was a good idea to get near the engines on a narrow body aircraft (The engines are closer to the center of the fuselage) that sits as low to the ground as a 737 while the engines were running we will never know.

These are pretty gorey, NSFW, and you shouldn't look if you are eating or have a weak stomach.

The best way I can describe these pictures is "pastrami."

Isn't that the best part though?

I mean you'd think a person would take out a good portion of the blades. He really didn't though, I mean you can tell some of them are tweaked, but the damage isn't really significant.

The cool part is that they probably had this plane up in the air less than 2 days to a week after this happened, provided there wasn't some severe damage we can't see. On modern turbofans they can just replace the turbines.

Or maybe his funeral could be Quake or Unreal themed. The priest or whomever saying the final words could turn to the audience and say, ""And this man, where ever he is righ---M-M-M-MONSTER KILL!!!," and buckets of the man's pieces are thrown at the attendees.

It's not that bad. He probably died instantly.

Why should I respect someone who clearly got what they deserved for not using sound judgement near dangerous equipment?

I deleted it because I don't think an animated dog rubbing her vagina is appropriate for this forum.

If the engines suddenly went on when he was working, then everyone's reaction would be different. Or if he was physically shoved into it somehow. Or if the bright red lights weren't functioning. I venture to guess that keeping in mind of the airplane's large turbines should be top priority when taking a job like that. Accidents happen. People often don't call construction workers who get injured/killed on job stupid because getting hit with a falling object or slipping off the narrow walkways can easily happen.

I'm willing to bet if this happened in the US, it would big news. Maybe in Singapore, airline ground personnel are trained poorly. You can ignore the red lights, they are there just for convenience.

No one deserves to be sucked through a turbine even if they are careless.

Even hitler?
nope.

In the first picture you can clearly see the read beacon is functioning.

Truth is, they're IMPOSSIBLE TO MISS. They're bright as ****.

Turbofans don't just start at maximum idle thrust. It isn't your car.

737s have smaller engines, which are closer to the center of the fuselage, and it sits low to the ground. You have to crouch walk to walk under a 737. It's very clear that no matter what path you take, it's going to be too close to the engine if you're going towards the main gear.

On an A-300 for example, because it's a wide body aircraft I could walk straight down the center of the fuselage underneath of the plane. The idle thrust danger area would be three to four feet to either side of me.

But guess what. I DON'T WALK DOWN AN AIRPLANE WITH RUNNING ****ING ENGINES. Want to know why? It's not smart. Ever. EVER.

Should have gotten on the headset and made them shut the engines down. (The mechanic is in communication with the flight crew via an intercom system)
2008-03-26, 8:37 PM #34
That's what I was saying. You can easily see the red lights. If he just walked to the turbine when the lights were on, it wouldn't really compare to something tragic happening at an average construction site-related incident. I meant to say "Accidents happen, but not everything is the same." As mentioned before, if he was shoved, the engine somehow started on or anything like that, then it would be saddening to every degree. But if he just felt like the lights weren't important, simply it wouldn't be at the same level.

No thanks.

I prefer to maintain that while I may be dumb, atleast I'm not retarded enough to walk into a running ****ing plane engine.

It would seriously be different if this was something that could happen due to another persons negligence. But it isn't.

There wasn't even a vagina that is a barefaced LIE and you say pictures of a man who's been sucked through a jet engine are more appropriate? what kind of con are you running here anyway?

this is an outrage etc etc
