Pommy's Poll 42: Moon landing hoax
2008-03-30, 8:48 PM #1
How prevalent is the belief that the Apollo moon landings were a hoax?

(If there are Massassians who carry that belief, also discuss the reasoning behind it here to the extent that it is possible without degenerating into a flamewar)

Clarification: "Knowing somebody" who believes this means that the person in question is an acquaintance and not just some person you saw on TV, on Youtube, etc.

I don't believe it was a hoax, but I know at least one person who thinks it was. She's....a special person to say the least.

Your poll is confusing. Someone might read through too fast and think the poll options are about the landings themselves and not that the landings are hoaxes.

Also a quick google reveals what seems to be an exhaustive look at both sides: http://www.xenophilia.com/zb0003.htm

i spent all day smoothing out my moon dust

Why go to the moon and visit it's cold, lifeless wasteland when you can just film New Jersey.

Yeah haha I had been looking through that stuff and the Wiki article on it... the Wiki article claims that 89% of Americans believe that the moon landings were genuine and 11% were hoax believers; I wanted to see if the breakdown at Massassi would be similar.

:gonk: I live there, you insensitive clod! Just because Camden is a dump doesn't mean the rest of the state is!

Sadly i know several people who believe.
One thinks that the spaceship was donated by martians, does that count?

My sister and her husband believe in this junk and almost convinced me of it until I saw a documentary with facts that invalidate the hoax. I tried to convince her but sadly questions like "If we've already been to the moon, why doesn't the government go back?" and "how come no other nation has attempted to land on the moon?" can be hard to counter without the right evidence.

My girlfriend paid a lot of money for that tv; I want to watch ALL OF IT. - JM

When I was a lad I used to think it was a hoax. More specifically, I thought the first landing was hoaxed, but they got there eventually.

I have a friend who firmly believes it was hoaxed. He also believes in fairies.

Wait, I'm sorry. Faeries.

*facepalm*

I don't think so... there were some close calls (Apollo 13) though, and sicknesses were common, some with some pretty nasty results--

Borman eventually fell asleep but then awoke feeling ill. He vomited twice and had a bout of diarrhea that left the spacecraft full of small globules of vomit and feces that the crew cleaned up to the best of their ability.[/quote]

There is a reflector prism-y thing on the moon that america has used to accurately plot the orbit of the moon and thus prove that Einstein's version of physics (i.e. mass warping space-time) is more accurate than Newton's.

If we didn't put that bad boy there, there's an even bigger conspiracy to uncover!

I don't think anyone around here believes in that, but then again I actually found a true Finnish godbotherer community some time ago so anything could happen.

The people I know who believe this, are generally the people who believe anything they read in conspiracy books. You know, David Icke believers. Icke is the guy who claims that Bush (and other important peeps) are in fact reptile aliens in disguise. :psyduck:

I think the first landing was propaganda so we win the race against the Russians, but we did get there eventually...

One of my bosses is a conspiracy nut. I'm almost positive I've heard he doesn't believe in the moon landings. If I'm wrong, then I don't know anyone who does not believe we landed on the moon.

If people had landed on the moon it wouldn't be able to stay in the air, it would be weighed down by sin.

Besides, everyone knows humans traveled to the moon for whaling, only to find that there were no whales. All they could do once they got there was tell tall tales.
