My Horrible Math Teacher

I stopped taking it at calculus. Decided I didn't like it. I got it fine, just didn't interest me.

I think you're missing the point of this thread entirely. I know I'm bad at math. I don't expect any special treatment because I'm bad at math. My problem is that the teacher thinks that, because I'm bad at math, and I've had bad circumstances that I don't care, or that I'm trying to disrespect him, and thus he gives even less of an effort to help than he regularly would.

Even worse, he complains as if he's not being paid. He pretends everyone's lying to him, and he doesn't actually teach the material. This is not a case of someone wanting a higher grade. This is a case of someone trying to find a foothold in a subject he's already bad at.

Math beyond basic algebra is as much a skill and an art as it is a science.

After being able to find out what is going on, I'd say you have a legit beef, and the university probably will lit a fire under his rob if you speak with the right people. It sounds as if the teacher has a generally bad attitude about accommodating disabled people. Since it's their policy to accommodate your medical issues, and you paid tuition understanding this, it's not up to this teacher weather or not he should accommodate you. It's his job. You're not asking for grade leniency, you're asking that the teacher provide the services that you paid for, and he's being paid to provide. This isn't high school, even if you got a scholarship, or it government funded, he's not doing you a favor by teaching you. This is a service you paid for.

He's not using it as a crutch. His teacher is... to beat him with it.

You could always play the oppressed minority card, but you probably don't want to come down to his level. Find someone appropriate to write to... someone in a position to do something about it, and if it also happens to be someone you already know and who is familiar with your condition that's a big bonus as well. Then decide what to write... a simple factual list of occurrences you feel were unjust, along with your opinions on what you felt would be a more reasonable exchange in each case, would be a good place to start IMO.

Also you can consider doing a group letter if any of your classmates have sympathized with you or also dislike the teacher (for legitimate reasons of course IE the not teaching bit if you also want to write about that).

It could be a requirement.
