my computer's PSU went POP!

My computer's PSU blew, making a loud pop, blue light, and a burning electrical smell. hopefully it didnt kill anything else in my computer. I was in the middle of an audiosurf song too.

So now I am stuck without a computer, and can only browse the internet via my nintendo wii.

So, anyone else have major computer hardware problems recently?

my mac doesn't like to shut down for some reason when it has been on for a long while (3-4 days)...it just hangs there, in the end I just turn it off.

about it really...

alpha the rest of your computer should be fine, if it was a decent PSU it would have capacitors that would have stopped any spikes getting through. Still check some of the capacitors on the motherboard and also have a look over it to check for any burnt components before you put a new PSU in.

I upgraded to the beta Ubuntu, and things were shaky for a little while. After some updates, almost everything is good now.

Mac Minis hard drive puked last month and we lost most of the stuff, couldn't get it to dump afterwards and I was stupid and didn't have the majority of things backed up. However we did get a new drive in it now and gave it to my sister (voodoosnowflakes) Now we have an iMac 20 inch 2.4 MHz as a family computer and as my Digital Media computer. Yay.

Meanwhile firefox on my Gutsy ubuntu machine is doing the memory hog thing..but i figure ill just wait for Hardy and put version 3 on there.

Mine crashes explorer (not IE, windows explorer 'explorer.exe') when I open folders with lots of videos in it (porn:rolleyes: RvB, other things as well). Found out its a codec error, dunno why... has something to do with thumbnails.

i thought explorer.exe was the startbar thing, as whenever i had an error with it and it closed, he entire startbar and desktop shortcuts disappeared until explorer.exe started up again.

Scares the crap out of you, eh? Once at work I was next to a computer when a cap blew, made me jump.

Look on the bright side. At least it's one of your PC's cheapest components, and provided your system partition didn't get trashed because the drive was in use when the PC shut down, replacing it should be pretty painless.
