i'm looking at sky drive http://skydrive.live.com/ and amazon's s3. i'm waiting for my invite for drop box http://www.getdropbox.com/ (5 weeks now).

anyone use online storage for backup etc? any suggestions?

with DVDs at a dollar a pop, External HDDs that hold terrabytes and bluray disks going down in price, who gives a damn?

i'd like to be able to access files and photos from multiple locations also.

DVDs cost under $0.50 each, you're getting ripped off. Also, none of that does you any good if your house burns down with all of your backups in it.

I've heard good things about http://carbonite.com/, might want to check that one out.

Honestly, if my house burned down, one of the last things on my mind would be what was lost on my computer.

"Misplacing the CDs" would be a more reasonable concern.

Not sure if carbonite.com is the kind of thing you might be thinking about but it's supposedly only $50 / year. I don't believe you can access from multiple locations. That's just a guess based on my cursory glances through the site. I notice Aglar mentioned it too. I've been considering the service.

Carbonite is unlimited, but I don't want to pay. If I needed to back up that much, I would just make extra window's live IDs.

SkyDrive looks nice, I might start using it. My ISP only gives me 10mb. :/

If you want, you gotta pay. 50 bucks a year for what carbonite offers looks to be an amazing deal to me.
