So I'm getting this check from Toyota..

..they're buying my Tacoma back (frame rust - extended warranty, etc..Google for more info), so it looks like I'll wind up with a rather generous check (read: $7000 more than I paid for my truck in December of 2005).

I have a couple of options...one, buy another truck. Two, buy an MR2 Turbo, and work overtime this summer to buy another truck before winter...

$9250..with a built engine... :awesome:

The catch? It's in California. That's not exactly next door..

You just need someone from California to drive it across the country for you.

I plan on buying an older truck (2000-ish), but it'll still probably set me back $8-10k. I estimate my check will be $2k, and I'm trying to avoid a loan. I might end up getting a loan anyway, or just postponing the car until next year.

What's so wrong with the 80s?

Tell you what. Find me a car that's better looking, more reliable, more powerful and more fun to drive than an SW20, and maybe I'll listen to you.

Maybe it's just me, but I still prefer 91+ MR2s.

Just get a decent car that gets good gas mileage or something. Like an impala or one of its foreign equivalents. Then spend the money left over and the money you save on gas to buy something like this.

Yep - I've wanted one for years. I just found one for $4800 in MD. I want to replace my Tacoma with another Tacoma, though.

I've been looking around at WRX's too...so many options...

If I were you, I would buy a nearly mint and stock MR2, then spend the rest of the money on mods like wheels, suspension, any engine bolt-ons

MR2s are nice, but having one thats already been built, means its almost definately been beat on.

I'd be getting one through the MR2 Owner's Club website - oftentimes, several other people are familiar with cars that are being sold. This one in particular has had some serious work done and has a built engine. Nothing wrong with a car that's been ran hard, as long as it has been taken care of. :)

It's a little out of my price range, though...I did find a guy selling a stock one..for $8k..definitely more than I'd like to spend for stock.

I have nothing to contribute to this thread, but would like to say:

I thought for 3 days that John Travolta was sending you money. I'm sad now.
