Connecting a 360 to the 'net through a laptop?
2008-04-17, 7:32 PM #1
So my newly acquired 360 is downstairs in my townhouse and I want it to access the internet but my modem and router are upstairs, so the only real way I could get it online would be either a long ethernet cable (like realllyyyy long) or to buy a wireless adapter (and they seem to be quite pricey)

Do you guys know if there is any way I could just plug an ethernet cable from my 360 to my laptop (which connects to the internet wirelessly) downstairs?

Seems to be a newb question, I know, but I'm just not sure of the answer.

Crossover cable, share your internet. Might work.

You'd be better off looking into the solutions that allow you to run internet through your powerlines via an adapter.

There's guides on the net on how to do this pretty easily. You have two options in general: bridging, or internet connection sharing. Google either with the word xbox 360 in it and you should be fine.

And don't use the power line adapters, they're terrible and have trouble working over many types of circuit relays.

I have like three friends that play on Live through their laptops, works great for them.

I've tried it on my mac - works a charm once it's set up.

yeah, as mentioned aboved. just hook the xbox via cat5 and bridge your LAN and WAN (highlight both, right click- 'bridge connections').. my switch is in another room. I ran a 50ft ethernet cable to my PC and then bridged it to my xbox

Holy crap. I didn't even know this could be done, but I read this thread five minutes ago, tried it, and now I'm playing Call of Duty online. It's the easiest thing ever.

Well I tired it and it worked quite well, thanks a lot guys.

SPE, does your laptop have wireless ability? That's what I did, my laptop connects to the internet through wireless, and I just plug an ethernet from my 360 to my computer and bridge the connections and it works great.

But if you can't connect your laptop/pc wirelessly then that might not be helpful.

I guess now I need to go buy a game that I can play online, thanks again.
