2 weeks ago we bought the Stargate movie, I expected a good Sci-Fi movie and was absolutely blown away by the sheer epic awesomeness of it. Since then we have bought the first 3 seasons of SG1 and have finished the first and are halfway through the second.

Discuss how awesome Stargate is.

They've had a few things happen since that movie came out.

Also, there's this new TV series called Battlestar Galactica. It's an up-and-coming hit.

I love Stargate, and SG-1 is pretty cool, except for the fact that every damn planet's first language is English. Especially when the movie made such a big deal about having to get past the language barrier.

I've been watching it too. Unfortunately Wall-Mart stopped selling them and the other places I've looked for gouge you like crazy. So right now, it's either pirate them or buy them online, and both are a pain.

I'll probably look into BSG after this. I like Stargate for the comedic value though. Why can't we be in Season 8 of Firefly?

I loved Stargate but could never get into SG-1.

I acctualy found a copy of it in the bargin bin at walmart a few months ago.
I was never a fan of SG-1 but I love the movie.

I started watching it a few months ago..I have one episode left for Season 4 of SG1. Six more to go, plus Atlantis..then I'll watch the movie.

Someone should do a JK mod for SG1.

The first 1/2 seasons of SG1 are pretty meh. They pick up after there, and don't make the mistake of taking themselves too seriously.

1.) These kind of complaints are annoying
2.) It's not practical in terms of storytelling for everyone to speak English.
3.) It's a TV show. Get over it.
4.) Suspension of disbelief. Seriously.

I've been a fan of SG-1 since the pilot. I have all 10 seasons of SG-1 on DVD, the Ark of Truth DVD, plus the first 2 seasons of Atlantis.

Stargate is amazing, but the television shows, in my mind, aren't even related.

The one that came out in 95' or somesuch.

The last movie will be awesome. The tagline I saw was "A playful romp through time."

Summary: Baal goes back in time to ancient Egypt and steals the Stargate.

According to rumor the second movie will blow the first one out of the water. It's supposedly good enough to be theatrical.

Also another movie idea in consideration might be a director's cut of the SG-1 pilot, maybe for the big screen.

If you're gonna get SG-1, splurge and get Atlantis seasons 1-4 as well (4 isn't out on DVD yet though). I enjoy both shows immensely, and a third show, Stargate Universe, is in the works which also sounds good. Maybe we'll see it materialize in 2009. If not then it might not show up until Atlantis ends its run, whenever that is.

[Edit: Oh you meant the original Stargate movie. Thought you were talking about the SG-1 movies.

If you end up picking up all of SG-1 get the first SG-1 movie too, The Ark of Truth. It wraps up the Season 9/10 story arcs. The second movie, Continuum, is then free to be awesome without previous story line baggage.

Interestingly, the guys who made the original movie reportedly weren't happy with where SG-1 took the story. They had a different vision which was realized in a novel trilogy or something. Something else to look for I guess.]

The entire Replicators sequence was stuffing to get it to 90 minutes. I loved the transition to movie rip-offs, however. First, they rip off of Virus and have a half-man/half-Replicator running around. Then, we rip off Terminator by burning away all traces of the guy and have a murderous robotic human skeleton running around.

I'm surprised that the thing didn't get crushed to death, reaching out with a claw hand toward our friends on SG-1.
