Firefox not remembering usernames and passwords.
2008-04-24, 10:45 AM #1
Alright guys, looking for some assistance here. For some reason as of late Firefox is no longer remembering my usernames and passwords that I have set for it to remember. (For example: I've almost never had to manually log into the Massassi forums because I have the "remember me" option checked). Several sites have this very same ability and for some reason none of them are remembering me anymore. Firefox will remember the password while that particular session is open, but as soon as I close the browser and re-open it then it no longer remembers me.

I did some searching on Google, and everything that I've come across hasn't helped me. I've checked to see if my browser has it set to clear passwords after being closed and it does not. I also have the remember passwords feature checked in the options as well.

My only real hope here is that one of you may have encountered a similar issue, as it seems that many others are having this problem as well. It used to remember my usernames and passwords just fine, but for whatever reason it has now stopped. I am using Firefox Beta 3, but I have been using it for quite some time, so I don't think that's the issue.

Any help on the matter would be greatly appreciated. :)

Did you mess with any of the privacy settings?

If worse comes to worst, just make a new profile.

No I didn't touch any of the privacy settings. I'm unfamiliar with the profiles system, and there's a chance that I don't even have a profile made, unless it does it by default. How do I go about creating a profile, and will I need to transfer my bookmarks and such when I do so?

The way you describe it it sounds more like a cookie problem.
Sorry for the lousy German

Everyone has a profile, it's made on launch if you have none.

You will lose all settings including bookmarks if you delete your profile, so yes you will need to back them up.

Yeah, I had something similar happen a little while back, and cookie settings were to blame.

So what do you suggest I change then in the cookie settings that may fix this problem?

Make sure your desired sites didn't accidentally get on a list of no-cookie sites. I don't have beta 3, but in the Privacy tab of Firefox's options window make sure that the "accept cookies from sites" box is checked. Make sure that you're keeping cookies until they expire, and also click on the "Exceptions" button in that same group box and make sure your good sites didn't accidentally get stuck in there.
