Haha, sounds like the town I live in, they actually fired our ONLY cop a while back, and continued to try to bill people for it. After houses started getting vandalized at night (mostly empty houses by kids) they had to hire someone back.

I'm confused why these selectmen have any say on something that has no impact on the budget whatsoever (referring to your free employment).

Because they have way too much power...and most likely a personal vendetta against the police department, from well before my time.

Well, see, the obvious course of action here is to kill them all and then when someone asks why the police aren't investigating it, they should shrug and say, "We don't have enough people."
