Side Jobs?
2008-05-07, 11:35 AM #1
Anyone else have a side job they do outside their full time career/job?

I'm looking for a good temporary job to buy some spoils (mostly stuff for my car, and room) but I'm not really sure where to start. I considered lawn business but i dont have a truck or anything to haul equipment around with... Most contractors who need assistants dont work when im off (my regular hours are 7am 3:30ish pm) Fast food doesn't really pay well enough to justify the time here (~5.50/hr typically). Anyone have any suggestions?

I dogsit/housesit. I put an ad in the local paper a while ago, but now it's pretty much recurring customers. I get paid $30-50 a day, and all I do is sit on their couch, steal their wifi, eat their food and watch TV, and then spend 20-30 minutes walking / feeding the dog. I pull in an extra $300-500 a month doing it.

I've only run into 1 house without wifi, but I used my real job's EVDO card and I was set for the weekend.

Hm... not a bad idea, though there isn't much wifi around here... even on private networks.

This year my landlord payed me $12/walk to walk his dog. It added up.

Walking dogs is a weak business around here... most people have more than large enough yards, if their dogs don't just roam free.

If you can't walk your own dog, why have one?

Waiting tables is excellent for a side job. Usually flexible hours and you basically create your own wage. Also a useful skill that you can take anywhere and immediately find employment.

Bleh, I keep reading this as "Blow Jobs?"

Everything that I do besides sitting on this car seat I dug up from a trashyard count as side jobs, really.

Side jobs... does raiding in a MMORPG count? Being forced to submit an application to the raid guild's website, showing up one day a week to coordinate with a group of annoying people on vent for 4 to 6 hours, be bossed around like a peon by a douche bag a.k.a. raid leader, and being forced to do tedious grinding during the week to prepare for the raid all in the name of getting some pretty armor that'll make you look just like every other player who is the same class in your guild... that's no longer a game, that's a job LOL.

I once welded the bottom of an old rolley chair to the frame of a car seat so I could use it as a desk chair.

BEST. CHAIR. EVER.

The wheels broke on the rolley part from all the extra weight, though. :(

Fast Food pays 5.80 at least, and in June will raise to 6.35 I think it is.

I'd suggest getting a job at subway maybe--place is pretty easy. Or a call center even.

I wouldn't count it as a job, since you're the one paying them.

That's a side job for some people.

I coach and referee lacrosse. Make an extra $4000 a year or so doing that. Also do the house/pet setting for family and family friends. Easy gig.

Retail.

The house sitting thing sounds cushier
Fincham: Where are you going?
Me: I have no idea
Fincham: I meant where are you sitting. This wasn't an existential question.

You need a better guild.

Every raid with my guild is a blast, we've brought people to tears they're laughing so hard.

lmfao! ahh I needed that... The car chair sounds sweet... maybe I will use my RSX seats for that if I ever get some nice recaros.

Delivery boy is a terrible idea for a job right now especially with gas prices going up.

Fast food is okay, I've done it before... its just annoying, stupid customers, stupid bosses... usually you either work with 40 year olds who never graduated highschool, or 16 year olds who have yet to.

Heh, I've never been in a raiding guild. I was attempting to poke at the stereotype of raiding guilds in general.
