L'Acadie!

Kick arse. I met a crap load of new relatives (out of 400-500, but I couldn't talk to them all you know!!!)

The relatives from France came, they were cool, although it was hard to understand them

I think they expected a lot more relatives..but meh, I still thought it rocked!

So now I know all about my past, and my Acadian background. The first Girouard to ever come to North America is my Great great great great great great great great great grandfather! That is so freaking cool!!! The name Girouard has been changed so much, because it is pronounced "gewa" so when the English took people prisioner, they wrote the name as they heard it. So there is Gerrior, Gerroir, Giroir, Girroir, Girrior, Girouard... I think there is only a few people with the original spelling, my line is one of them! Yay!!! (Even though my name is now Del Sesto because of my father...but my mother is a Girouard, which makes me one)

Anyway, I am doing an interview with my Uncle and the author of Acadian Awakenings (My 7th Cousin once removed...so yeah...it just seems cool [http://forums.massassi.net/html/wink.gif] ) for the OSCEmpire

http://www.acadianawakenings.com/ <--- The book site. Bill Gerrior spent basically his whole life making these books and tracing my family back to the Dark Ages!! He even morgaged his house to print these, and he has no idea how he will afford the 5th book...so yeah, check them out damn it [http://forums.massassi.net/html/tongue.gif]. Even if you aren't a Girouard, they are great books for history buffs (like me.)

[/end plug]

But anyway, I have over 300 pictures and all this information and AGH! It's just all so damn cool!!!!!

I'll post more info if anyone cares at all [http://forums.massassi.net/html/tongue.gif] and pictures MANY MANY later.

There was also this one guy who showed up at the reunion in a full elvis costume, with Acadian flag pins in his hair. "I'm Elvis Girror". It was great, he had the accent and all. He went around talking to everyone, and surprisingly he spoke French too! So he sat and talked to the French familes as well. At one presentation people were saying where they were from "Texas!" "New Brunswick!" "Rhode Island!" then Elvis stands up "Memphis Tenesee!" ROFL, had to be there I guess. Also one of the French Families brought over pages and pages of info and familie trees, which was awesome because we don't have THAT much info on the French Girouards. (The Girouard site has maybe 35,000 to 40,000 pages currently, and with all the people that showed up and claimed they weren't on the site...my uncle just added them to it there, so +50 or so more people on the site to that)

With all the alternate spellings for "Girouard" there are probably WELL over 250 families in Québec. Hell, Quebecers speak French badly enough that there are probably more alternates than you think [http://forums.massassi.net/html/tongue.gif]

Glad you had a good time. Where were you exactly in Nova Scotia? My uncle used to be to stationed in Halifax on the HMCS Preserver before they send him to Victoria to train new navy recruits.

I have a pitifully aged family. They're mostly old and decrepid.

Nice to have you back [http://forums.massassi.net/html/smile.gif] My family is more of a clan - anyone with the surname Pysanczyn is a direct relative of mine - most still live in the Ukraine, some live in the States, and there are two of us here in the UK. Actually, that is a good question. And the answer is very simple. I've been ready to make it for ages, I just can't find a map big enough. (I need a really...big..big map)

How does this work? Are all of these people related? Also, if people share the same last name does that mean that they are related (not necessarily directly, but somewhere down the line)?

These aren't just people with the same last name. This has all been researched. They are ALL related.

Could you just take maps of all the seperate countries massassians live in, then copy and paste them onto one big ol' uber map?
