Wouldn't broadcasting internet be anti-wardriving?
2008-05-08, 9:01 PM #20
He's setting up a wireless broadband connection. That's what the clearwire box is.
2008-05-08, 9:03 PM #21
That's a very nice range. What kind of BTUs does it get?

just finished installing it in the car, broadcasting on ssid "trunkfi" :awesome:

the clearwire acts about like a 1.5mpbs dsl line, which is not bad. i'll take some pics of the install in the morning, it's too dark to see anything.

needless to say, that badass switch controls the power to it all :D

clearwire sent me the modem with service for free. :D

i run a comp repair shop, and there have been plenty of times i've been at a customer's location and not been able to get internet. now i go out to the car, flip a switch, and i have a hotspot to connect to. :D also plan to use it to get better performance on the iphone for google maps and such.. :D

So how does it work?

Is it like internets on the phone, or those cards you can buy through ATT for your craptop?
2008-05-08, 10:11 PM #26
the service area isn't great yet, it works in nashville and franklin (where my shop is) but not in spring hill where i live.

but if you are in the service area it works like a regular dsl connection. it feels much faster than any cell company's card.

ping times are around 70ms, you could possibly even game on it.

I was under the (apparently mistaken) impression I was the only Nashville area massassian.
I'm from Goodlettsville, but currently reside in Bowling Green.

I'm not sure how i feel about yall being in such close proximity.
