You probably got the green girl special (aka the stop girl). You have the opportunity to get that special after hitting the boost from another girl but before you hit the ground. It's the best of the "normal" specials.
OR you might have used one of the "aerials", either a red one or a blue one. The red one hits you back into the air like a boost, but you only have three. The blue one reflects you downwards, great for hitting another girl or squeezing out the last bit of footage needed to survive if you're almost stopped. The blue one is nice because it'll recharge the longer the guy stays on the screen. You use the red one by clicking as he's falling (only while he is onscreen). You use the blue one while he is ascending (again, only as he's onscreen).
The purple girl has the best specials though, although hers work differently and are much harder to get.
