Nice little story i'd like to share...
2004-08-06, 9:19 AM #1
Back in January of 2003, I joined a MOHAA (Medal of Honor Allied Assault) gaming clan. I am still there, its called BHC which stands for Bravery Honor Courage. I have always enjoyed it, its the second clan I have been a major part of (Other one was a XWA clan called DS which I was in for over a couple years) anyways I have always loved clans.

About a year into my BHC "career", a person joins by the name of Killer103B. She does the best she can to clear up the fact that yes, she is a GIRL who likes to play Medal of Honor. At first of course some people are skeptical because its common for people to impersonate females and use that to get into clans. But we hear her on TeamSpeak (voice chat program) and then all doubt is removed.

Of course, throwing a young girl into the mix of about 100 lonely guys isnt always pretty, she took a lot of crap. At first I never really knew her, I never made an attempt to start off conversation because I knew she already probably took too much of that and I didnt want to bug her anymore that she already got bugged. She put up with it though.

So come spring break this year, the person who assigns recruits into squads of our clan places her in my squad, she was one of four people below me. Cool I though, this should be interesting. We played in our clan server a lot, but at first nothing other than just clan business came about. As time went on, we started talking more and more on AIM and Teamspeak, I find out that she lives in New York, almost 3000 miles away from me, I learn a little bit about her social life and how she is having a tough time with her boyfriend etc. I notice that we really seem to have a lot in common, and she notices it too. We start writing emails to each other and things kinda start to take off between us.

About a month after we met, it clicks that because my father works for SBC (Major communications company in the US) we get completely free unlimited long distance calling to anywhere in the US. So one day when her computer went down, I get an email from one of her friends with her phone number telling me to call her. So I did. Major boost in the relationship, because now we can talk to each other not just at the computer but wherever we go. From this point things completely took off, and i dont know how else to say it, we fell completely in love with each other.

It was like this for a couple of months, we logged on average 70 hours per month of time on the phone (ive got the bill to prove it). So many nights where we just stayed up ALL night on the phone talking to each other, even a few occasions where one of us fell asleep on the phone. We talked a lot about meeting, but it was usually like after high school, maybe in a couple years one of us can fly out to see the other. We wanted that so bad.

When the phone came into the picture is when our parents really started to figure out what was going on. At one point my dad talked to her mom and they seemed to get along, neither one of them had a problem with the relationship, they even felt sorry for us because they cannot imagine loving somebody who lived so far away and not being able to see them.

One day, out of the blue, my dad says "Andy, why dont we invite her out for for 2 weeks?" I just about **** my pants that he brought that up. I talked to her and she went crazy, but her mom was unsure about it. A 15 year old traveling by herself across the country to California to stay with a completely unkown family for 2 weeks? I can understand where she was coming from, and basically it wasnt going to happen. However her mom did mention that she could think about having me over to her house. We got so excited, we didnt care who went where as long as we got to see each other.

So we did. Our parents got together, and we planned a trip for me to fly out there and stay with her family for 12 days, July 24th - August 4th. I left San Francisco International early the 24th, stopped in Chicago for a 3 hour layover, and then took a smaller plane to Syrcause (close to where she lives) and they picked me up there.

I had the best time of my life, the first couple days we spent there, then we drove down to Gettysburg for a couple days, then back to her house for a couple days, then fimally we went over to Niagara Falls for a couple days.

Here are pictures if you want to see them.

http://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/drewster61987/my_photos

As far as the relationship, we completely hit it off. We fell so insanely in love with each other it almost hurt.

The thing that killed me the most was leaving. I have never hurt more, the look on her face as she had to sit there and watch me walk away when I left the Airport. She cried the entire day after I left and she still kinda bursts into tears sometimes when I talk to her on the phone now that I am home. We are now trying to get a trip planned for her to come out to California really soon. Hopefully, now that her mom has met me (I met her entire family and they all just absolutely love me) she will be more comfortable with letting her come out to California.

Oh well, sorry if nobody really cares about this, I just thought it was a really cute and somewhat inspirational story that would be nice to share. Just a few months after we first meet, living on opposite sides of the country, we actually got a chance to meet each other, and everybody who saw of together and got to know us says we are perfect for each other and they say they can see us being together for a very long time...we have both been in relationships before, some that even lasted close to 2 years and it was NOTHING like what we have now. Plus the distance apart makes the moments together all the more special, and hopefully someday we will be truly together, we both really want that and talk about it a lot.

Wow, that's awesome. I had a long distance relationship for a while (not that long though) from the Internet, some of you know about it. Hope yours goes as well as mine did.

That's cute.

See, you guys did it correctly. You weren't LOOKING for someone online, you just sort of hit it up. That's how it should be done, with online dating. If you just happen to start talking more and more, and start calling eachother, etc, it's a REAL relationship. Going to hot or not is a sure fired way to NOT get a good spouse out of the deal.

This also proves that video-games can do more than just shoot up a school.
