Don't get me wrong, this is actually pretty awesome....but did you google for how to tie your shoes or something?

EDIT: I actually did it. It's not too bad, and once I get it down, it's probably cut my time down a lot. Right now it takes me 4 seconds. But the shoe its self seems like it can become untied easily

Wait, so the person who owns the site named the knot after him?

I bet Ian Fieggen is an interesting fellow in real life but he comes across as the most boring person on the internet.

edit: I'll take that back. He isn't.

Haha, no, I found it with StumbleUpon.

It's the same as the standard knot (which I never used). You can make it quite secure by doubling it up. See the double Ian knot. There's also Ian's Secure knot and the Mega Ian knot.

that's... a pretty aspergers naming scheme

Thankfully, this technique causes less wear and tear on your shoe laces.

I prefer my approach: cut the shoelaces and burn the ends, so you never have to tie 'em.

thats just a square(or reef) knot

sailor types have been using that for about aprox forever

as in, oldest news ever posted.

Yeah I don't think that you can name a knot after yourself if It's been in existence for hundreds and probably even thousands of years. Also I've tied my shoes like that for years. :eng101:

What's awesome is that he has a reef knot on the site too.

I know of 4 ways to tie a bowline, one of which i made up myself.. they're all still bowlines. variations on tying knots don't deserve new names.

It's not a reef knot. It has an additional loop in it that allows the knot to be easily pulled apart. You would never use this for binding like you do a reef knot. It would come apart before the end of your day.

In what way? A reef knot is a binding knot, it should never be used for anything else. Many deaths have been of the result of using reef knots improperly. It sounds to me like you're pulling things out of your *** in attempt to sound smart, sir.

The news isn't the knot, but how to tie it.

Its a slipped reef knot. Which is still a reef knot. Reef knots are used primarily to reef sails(hence the name). This is a safe and proper use or them. Its also not a particularly amazing way to tie the knot.

also, slip on shoes are the way to go

i've had a traditional boating class for all of highschool

i know my knots

i also tie my boots with a normal square knot, no slips. Using tarred seine twine for laces no less. And I untie it by jamming a marlinspike in the middle.

I tie my boots with rivets and solder and untie them using a shotgun.

Mine are full penetration butt welded together and are taken off with land mines.

(or more accurately my shoes are slips-ons)

Knotboys! :argh: "particularly amazing" is a subjective view -- for those of us not knotmasters, it seemed like a novel and potentially useful knot-tying method. Why do you have to rain on that parade?

but it saves wear on the shoelaces!

even though shoelaces last longer than shoes do unless you have no nerve endings in your back
