So I posted about a month ago my first drive in a racing go-kart. After only about 2 practice sessions and a total of about 25 laps on the track I raced in my first race last saturday.

Of course I didn't win. In the first of the 3 heats my chain broke.. I think it was just a loose pin. The second heat I finished last, but I was happy because it was my first checkered flag. The feature event, the field got bunched up real tight going into turn 3 and I spun out.. so I finished last again. My kart is super tight in the heat, so I was off the pace by about 2 seconds but I consider that pretty good. Next weekend is a night race and I'm hoping to be more of a competitor.

Anyway, here are some photo's in no particular order.

Man that looks like a lot of fun... cheaper than taking the car to the track too im sure. How much does a day typically run a amature?

What kinda speeds do you race at?

aoejedi, a day to race is only $30 plus the initial $30 membership fee. It can be very expensive if you want to run an 80cc or 125cc shifter. Those karts can run up to $8000.. my 100cc kart is worth about $1500, non shifter of course.

saberopus, average speed in my class is like 56mph for the whole track. On the back straight we get up to about 80mph..

oh and baconfish I picked the # 13 :)

Oh and I wanted to mention, anyone who thinks auto racing in general is not a physical sport is wrong. Even these little go-karts take a huge toll on you. I was sore days afterwards.

So you don't really worry about spilling out of that thing at 60 mph? I know I'd be a little terrified.

yeah it crossed my mind the first time I drove one, but the seat is like a glove. It's so snug it's pretty hard to clime out of it.
