Happydud's Summer Parkour Adventure
2008-06-03, 9:47 PM #1
Some of you may have heard, but I'm planning a trip this summer. I'm starting in the Washington DC area, then heading all around the country on an 8 week adventure around the country. The primary purpose of the trip is to be visiting Parkour communities around the country, training with them, teaching when I can, learning when I can, and filming for a documentary.

That being said, I'm going to be everywhere from Boston to Seattle to San Fransisco to Miami, and most places in between. If there HAPPEN to be any Massassians in any of the areas I'm visiting, I could probably spare some time to meet up with you. If you've ever been interested in Parkour, you can come hang out and start, or if you just want to grab lunch, that's cool too.

If you're interested in keeping tabs on me, you can check out this link, or go to www.americanparkour.com and click on the top-menu item, "Where's Zac."

The cities I'll be visiting and the dates I'll be there are as follows:

Saturday, June 7th - Philadelphia Jam II
Friday, June 13th through Sunday June 15th - PKFR International Pittsburgh Jam
Friday, June 20th through Sunday June 22nd - PKNY (New Jersey and NYC)
Monday, June 23rd through Tuesday, June 24th - Columbus, Ohio
Wednesday, June 25th through Friday, June 27th - Ann Arbor, Michigan
Saturday, June 28th through Sunday, June 29th - Chicago Jam
Monday, June 30th through Wednesday, July 2nd - Madison, Wisconsin
Thursday, July 3rd through Friday, July 4th - Minneapolis, Minnesota
Saturday, July 5th through Wednesday, July 9th - Seattle, Washington
Thursday, July 10th through Tuesday, July 15th - San Fransisco, California
Wednesday, July 16th through Thursday, July 17th - Phoenix, Arizona
Friday, July 18th through Tuesday, July 22nd - Denver, Colorado
Wednesday, July 23rd through Tuesday, July 29th - San Antonio, Texas
Wednesday, July 30th - Tampa, Florida
Thursday, July 31st - Miami, Florida
Saturday, August 2nd - Athens, Georgia
Sunday, August 3rd through Tuesday, August 5th - Charlotte, North Carolina
Wednesday, August 6th through Friday, August 8th - Chapel Hill, North Carolina
Saturday, August 9th - back home to Severna Park, Maryland!

Like I said, this trip is primarily Parkour themed, so it is unlikely I'll be able to travel very far outside of the cities to meet anyone, but if you're interested in meeting up, I'm sure we can figure something out! Shoot me an email, happydud@gmail.com

But whenever you do come, we should def meet up and get some chowda or something. :P

Actually, I might be coming up to Boston for a day or two. It would be during the week, sometime between Philly and NYC. If it works out, I'll be sure to let you know.

Boston. Come to Boston. Maybe then I could actually get off my arse and meet a Massassian -- after all, I already have two sitting in my back yard.

San Antonio sucks... (well I guess if you live in Texas and have been there hah)

Theres some okay stuff there. Sea World, Six Flags, Alamo, some fun activities here and there. Just really depends what time of year you go, oh and seeing you're going to be here in july... expect 100-110 degree heat.

What, coming to Ohio and not to Cleveland? You mean you don't want to learn how to run away from inner city thugs on foot? :suicide:

Greenboy - Are you (and your friend) from the Seattle area? If you're interested, I can connect you with some locals and get you started, even if you can't see me on my trip.

Let me know!

I'm from Port Townsend, which is an hour drive and a 45 minute ferry from Seattle. I don't think theres any local parkour. None that I've heard of anyway.

Partial fail. I found some people in the area, or who at least visit the area, but the posts are about two years old.

Check out http://www.washingtonparkour.com/. If you're interested, register and post and say hi. You'd be surprised- there might be someone close by, if not in your town.

Hey we'll be in chicago at the same time..

But I won't be able to meet you.. unless you parkour your way onto the Recruit Training Center for the Navy in Great Lakes, IL (and manage to see me before someone throws you out).
If you choose not to decide, you still have made a choice.

Hmm not near any place I live.

By the way, how do I convince a guy (ex-Massassian actually) that Parkour is actually about getting from one place to another as quick as possible? The ex-Massassian dismisses this notion and says Parkour is stupid because it's all about looking fancy. I showed him quotes from the Wikipedia article, and gave an example of how Parkour was useful in a Jackie Chan movie ("stunts are made to look impressive" was what he said), but it proved futile. He ended up calling me shortsighted and cynical.

If he got on the Greyhound in Baltimore City, I can't blame him.

They tell you to line up at Door 5 for example, but your bus might be in Parking Spot 6, and the bus in Parking Spot 5 is NOT the right bus. Busses also only show final destination on their sign.

yea, i think he was supposed to get on the 108 and they got on the 107

Any idea what part of the city you'll be in?
