Stupid CD Protection
2003-12-26, 8:13 PM #1
I just bought a CD, The Distillers - Coral Fang, and it works fine in all my CD players. The problem, however, comes when I put it into my computer. I'm assuming it has some sort of protection, because the CD won't read at all in my drive, and I'm therefore unable to rip it.

Any suggestions on how to get around the stupid protection?

If your drive doesnt even see a CD in there, software wont help... if it sees it, but wont read it, then you can use some software... just look for some freeware on downloads.com

Software can help, depends on the copy protection.
Try to figure out which one is used with Swiss Scout Easyscan or clony XXL (search for it) then google for what was detected, I think one protection is unbeatable, don't know its exact name.
If you have a Plextor drive and Plextools, check "Enable Single Session" before loading the CD, else use EAC and set it so that it just reads the first session.

If you don't want all that bring the CD back to the shop and demand a new, uncorrupted copy of the CD.

Maybe you shouldn't listen to the Distillers...

Sorry, I just really dislike them! No offence!

I've had several CDs that were "copy protected" and iTunes has ALWAYS mounted the CD and ripped it. Try that. Seems to always work for me.

If you disable autorun, or hold the shift key when you put in the CD, the problem will go away.

Shouldn't be covered in the DMCA, because there was a supreme court ruling that made it legal to make copies of DVDs, VHS tapes, and CDs for yourself, as long as you didn't give them to anyone.

Tell me how disabling autorun gets past intentionally damaged TOCs and datajunk on CDs, which is what more sophisticated copy protection schemes consist of?

I am amused by the fact that this so-called software company weren't informed about the uses of shift..
