and the system according to AOL:

i don't know about you but to me this is extremely amusing.
giving away PCs is not going to help them in the long run because people will see how pointless it is to keep using outdated dialup connections [http://forums.massassi.net/html/wink.gif]
(a second phone line + $24 for AOL = cost of broadband)

It's amazing how cheap computers are becoming these days. There's a company near my hometown that sells desktops for as little as 99 bucks.

Not really. Desktop PCs are becoming vastly more powerful than many pepole require. Consequently, the PCs that are of a suitable spec are vastly cheaper. If you just want to get connected to the Internet, all you really need is a little computer running a basic Windows OS - no need for XP or anything fancy. 98SE would do more than adequately. Stick a web browser and e-mail client on there, maybe throw in an old copy of Office (2000 mebbe? That might chug a bit I guess.)

Doesn't need the latest system to run that, but it'll do all that a lot of people require of a computer.

Yep, most "Web" computers only cost about 500 dollars or so on average while computers that a GAMER wants is at least 1,200 dollars. Even more if you're demanding a super computer that'll run every game at 400 FPS.
