That Foo Fighter's + Serj cover of Holiday in Cambodia is an insult to the original.

Mark Knopfler - Brothers In Arms. I'd request that you watch the video for the full length; although I find it quite pleasant, I know Mark's voice isn't the greatest in the world. But his guitar playing is top notch.

That little DKs cover pretty much pisses me off... I don't know what those *******s are doing.. they have no business covering that song. I have a more respect for Dave Grohl than Serj, but come the **** on..

Why do people not realize that he sounds terrible? I liked the other guy in SOAD way better than his voice.. ANYONE can make that voice.

People love Serj because he has a voice that no one else in rock music has. It's instantly recognizable, and when he sings live it's always on par with what he sings on CD.

Also, he has a very versatile voice, and he can harmonize with just about any style of music. (Serj & Bitter:Sweet, Serj & Buckethead, Serj & Tony Iommi, Serj & Les Rita Mitsouko, Serj & Deftones, Serj & Hed PE, Serj & Wu Tang)

His next album is going to be Classical and Jazz, and not many artists would be as willing as him to branch off into other genres so easily. I mean, even if you disagree with me, and you dislike his voice, how can you deny his talents? His solo album was literally recorded in his home studio, and all the music was performed and arranged by himself.

I don't think you get it, you are not helping people appreciate Serj based on the way you promote him on this forum. You come across as a hopelessly in love fangirl which means any argument you make for his talent has zero credibility. Every review you've posted for Serj or SoaD has been hopelessly biased.

I will admit I like some of his stuff, but you make me like it less, and I don't mean you as a person because you seem quite cool - I just mean the way you go about promoting him.

It's pretty impossible for me to talk about Serj without verbally knob slobbing him because I totally AM that hyperactive fan girl when it comes to him and his music. Also, I totally know that I lay it on thick, and I know even more that nobody wants to hear it, but it's an obsession, what can I say :p It also doesn't help that I pretty much spend all my free time literally promoting Serj. *shameless plug*

You like terrible music.
2008-06-16, 10:42 AM #33
PS, I don't think Serj can actually play a single instrument which means he probably knows about as much theory as a goat.

IE, he's a terrible musician and other than pumping out crappy lyrics and vocals other people do all the work for his tired ***.
2008-06-16, 11:07 AM #34
Didn't you read what I just said? He composes and plays all the music on his album. He's even currently working on composing the music for an upcoming Broadway musical with Steven Sater. The man knows his instruments. If anything, he's doing all the work for himself. His runs his own record label, he produces his own music, and he works with many artists on more than enough albums/events/organizations.

I believe what I see. I've seen him play piano, guitar, bass, drums, etc... I've spoken to people that work with him on a daily basis, I've spoken to him, I've seen videos of him in the studio. This isn't about blindly believing everything you read, it's about knowing a person and respecting his talents.

Even though you're most likely saying all this garbage to get me in a tizzy, I've no problem defending against your bullocks.

[Edit: On Topic, Spook, that video is one of my favorite music videos ever. I heard that song at the gas station last night, and all I could picture was the video.]
