A successful and exciting change of direction for the CoD series? Not anymore on my watch! Now back to World War II with YOU.

They really should start using a more advanced engine for the type of game they're doing. Or at least better textures.
2008-06-21, 8:55 AM #5
It's using the same engine as CoD4. But it isn't by the same developers.

I'd really like to know why these games haven't been made yet.

Also, CoD has sucked since CoD2. The superhero health system is completely retarded.

What do you like better, having little pill boxes litter the landscape that magically heal you instantly, or removing all the clutter and just having your character himself be magical? :P
DO NOT WANT.

It's done by the people who did CoD3, not CoD4.

So yeah, it's gonna suck

I'd rather have no regen and no health packs. If you get shot up, you die. period. Raven Shield rocks.

There is a Civil War game. It's boring.

I wonder if the snipers can climb trees in the game, or if that was just part of a cutscene.

The non-Infinity Ward COD games exist only to remind us of how great a developer IW is.
2008-06-21, 9:38 AM #13
CoD4 was good, this looks like another bore-fest like CoD3.

The problem is, that we've seen it all before. MULTIPLE TIMES.

Everybody lines up and fires. Then it's a bayonet FFA.
Code to the left of him, code to the right of him, code in front of him compil'd and thundered. Programm'd at with shot and $SHELL. Boldly he typed and well. Into the jaws of C. Into the mouth of PERL. Debug'd the 0x258.

While there isn't even a hint of realism in any of the maps save one, the HL Revolutionary War mod is a blast. Having to reload your weapon to fire again is awesome, and then you spar off with your bayonet for 5 minutes and hope one of your team mates catches up.

The 1 map where it is rather realistic is even more amazing. You're all lined up, you fire once, rush the middle while reloading, all while some people are firing cannons over your shoulder. That game is FUN.

Pretty much. Basically the only thing that would make this type of game fun is when the Patriots or Confederates use their gorilla war tactics (Patriots more or less on southern campaigns and during the beginning of the revolution; Confederates at the end of the Civil War before and after Lee surrenders). Otherwise it'd be a line up, fire once, most likely miss, spend 5 seconds fixing a bayonet or twenty reloading, and charging or firing again, which will most likely will end with death of the player.

Another good point of such a game is you do a few missions where you lead the troops and tell them what to do. Not really RTS per se, but you get the picture.

As for CoD5, right now I'm disappointed, but will still play it I guess.

In Anovis' version of history the civil war was fought by a football team with monkeys.

cod4 is awful i dont get the fuss
2008-06-21, 1:41 PM #20
As far as I know this will not be called CoD5, as treyarch is no longer allowed to make numerical sequels. Instead, it will be CoD : subtitle.

Saw this trailer last night on GT TV. Supposedly there is suppose to be a 4 player coop campaign, but it might be exclusive to the 360 version.

Because it takes 2 hours to load a musket and that isn't as fun as Word War II for the 100th time.
2008-06-21, 8:34 PM #28
it might take you 2 hours because the ramrod keeps getting caught on your armsocks

Armsocks, or working for walmart.

We don't sort mail.

We totally let DHL and USPS use our air system though because their broke asses can't afford planes.

CoD has been too easy since CoD2, and it's sucked since CoD3.

It doesn't have to be an FPS. Something more along the lines of adventure, sneaking or espionage could be good. Also, during the later parts of the Civil War, repeating rifles showed up, which makes action a lot quicker.

Call of Duty: World at War (but you're in the Pacific and only fighting the Japanese)?

I liked the guy climbing a tree.

Let's have a Great Game game! Or Franco-Prussian War! Or the Crimea! Abyssinia! Falkland Islands? GRENADA! Surely there are other conflict they can cover. :PPP

With a long-reload weapon, multiple tiers should stagger their firing, to deadly effect.

Skip to 3:30 if you want to get right to the action. These are faster weapons, but the theory still holds for muskets.

Obviously, you haven't played CoD4.

Obviously, it's a matter of opinion. But in my opinion CoD4 is too easy to the point of sucking. In CoD1 you could go 0-20 if you were new and pubbing with experienced players. I'm sure a lot of people prefer an easier learning curve in a game, but personally I prefer a game where success requires mastery.

Personally I hated the multiplayer of COD, seemed slapped on and very... I dunno, but it just didn';t feel right.
To me, COD will always be a single player game.

There are loads of arenas of modern warfare that have been ignored. You could do Russian civil war, Russo-Japanese war, Sino-Japanese war and the Chinese civil war that sandwiched it, the Falkland war, the Israeli 6 day war, the fracturing of Yugoslavia, Chechnya, various African wars eg the Rhodesian bush war, South African border wars, Mau Mau rebellions, Angolan, Ugandan, Sierra Leonean, Liberian and Congolese civil wars or the amazing chase of Colonel von Lettow-Vorbeck during WW1 where he and his men evaded the Brits and succesfully fought a guerilla war against them for the full length of the war.
A lot of them are probably too politically incorrect to turn into a game but it'd increase interest and general public knowledge of such events. Plus playing the Rhodesian SAS, getting dropped out of aircraft at 500 feet into rebel bases would be pretty insane.
