Photography thread (and Fireworks)
2008-07-05, 8:57 PM #1
For those of who you might remember, I started a thread about 6 months ago about getting a rebel XTI for christmas, and being stoked about it.

Well, I replaced it with a Canon 40D, a much cool, bigger, badder camera. I got it for my birthday about 2 weeks ago.

And I wanted to both encourage folks to post pictures of their own, and post some pictures I took last night of the 4th of July.
Enjoy.

And yes, I see the blue/white/red dots in some of the pictures, I've resolved the problem (I think).

Those honestly have to be some of the best fireworks pictures I've ever seen. Seriously, no one has any idea how difficult it is to get good fireworks pictures until you really try.

The entire show I kept trying different settings and things out.

I had the joy of getting some good advice from yahoo.com or something about "how to get great fireworks pictures on the 4th of july."
"set your aperature to f8-f16" and I kept doing intervals of f4-f32 or something, mainly keeping in that f8-16 range.

I also had to, for example, set a 2-second timer so it wouldn't get blurry on the shots. Taking the picutes outright wasn't working.
In other words, I had a tripod, and when I press the "take picture" button, the camera shook and it messed up. So I hit a 2-second timer so when the picture got taken, it would be not blurry. (A remote for the camera would have helped)

I liked how stuff turned out, these were the better ones. I had alot of estimated shots with minor fireworks before they'd fully exploded, and some with total blackness :P.

The first 3 were taken with my crappy little Kodak Easy Share Z700, the others by my sisters Olympus Camedia C-5000 Zoom camera. I don't know a huge amount about cameras so I have no clue what the exact settings I used were.

I have a question for you Phoenix301. The one fireworks pic, 2nd from the bottom, of the skyborne streamer kinda thing. In the bottom right there is a face. Were you at a window by chance? I know this is off topic lol, but it was kinda kooky i thought.

He probably had the shutter set to a slower speed (for exposure), and someone stepped into the frame.
