i have a hdd that was quick formatted by an xp install and stopped at that point. a friend wants to know if he can get his pics off of it. i told him it may be possible with a file recovery tool.

any suggestions (free software)?

Since it's just a quick format he's lucky, his data should still be there, assuming he didn't use the drive afterwards.

Testdisk has saved my *** from the exact same thing. It is a command-line only tool.

It's free in every meaning of the word. ;)
