What have you been playing?
2008-07-21, 7:20 PM #1
I've been playing a lot of Call of Duty 4 multiplayer(silenced G3 ftw) and I recently picked up Fable and have been having fun with that. Besides those two, I've been bouncing between two MMOs.

A couple months ago I started up WoW again at the request of a friend after being gone for a year. Tinkered with a shaman and my druid for a bit, then quit because I was bored(it lasted probably two weeks). Mainly because I enjoy PvP and the PvP in WoW seems to have become repetitive and involve a lot of min-maxing as a job, especially with arenas(interestingly, I have never seriously levelled a character on a PvP server, mostly because I don't find much enjoyment in ganking or being ganked).

Then I picked up City of Heroes/Villains. I love the character customization(both in what power sets you get and appearance) and I also love the urban environment. Villains side also seems to have a little more substance to its missions and levelling than Heroes side does. The PvP seems decent, if only a little generic(and it also seems like it is unbalanced in favor of ranged characters, which, even though I love being a ranged character, takes some fun out of it). One thing I don't like is the mechanics, fighting, and interactions seem a little more rigid and wooden than WoW, which is a significant turn off since at heart I am a fpser, not an rpger.

Right now I'm starting to move back to WoW, thinking of making a character on a PvP server. I hear it kind of adds a whole other dimension to the game that I might be looking for.

So, what are you playing?

I've been sticking with Team Fortress 2 and Day of Defeat: Source lately. There is a particular server for TF2 where I've been building up points so I'm in the top 100 now.

I started KOTOR 2...does it get better? The mining station is pretty boring so far.

It get's better, but far too long into the game.

And then it goes downhill.

Not really. Get used to having maxed out forcepowers before you even start to have fun. It's supposed to be an rpg, but it's so god damn controlling. The only thing you get to choose is if you are light or dark. Oh, and getting a lightsaber wont happen for about 20 hours into the game. The maps are a joke also. Nar Shaadaa has what, 20 people total in one of the largest cities in the star wars universe? Go play Mass Effect instead.

I've been playing COD4, Mass Effect (what a ****ing great game), GTA4, a little bit of WoW, Ninja Gaiden 2 for mindless killing,

I've been modding the everloving snot out of Oblivion and playing a Dark Brotherhood character on that. It's a damn pretty and fun game with a s***-ton of mods activated.
DO NOT WANT.

KOTOR II was so broken it was ridicules. Half of Nar Shadaa simply would not work for me. Finding ways around the broken areas of the game was more challenging than the game itself.

There are plenty of mods out there that gives you a lightsaber at the end of Peragus. I personally hated waiting until after the first jedi to get a lightsaber. Waiting for a lightsaber KotOR I fit with the story well, not in TSL. I should have had one by Telos

The folks over at team-gizka.org have been slaving away at restoring all the content lost because LA got greedy. They've been at it for a loooong time so far.

Yes. Almost all of the game is better than the mining station, and KotOR 2 has a few shining moments that are so much better than anything in KotOR, it's ridiculous. Unfortunately, it also features a cornucopia of bugs, some pretty serious plotholes, and an ending guaranteed to elicit a "WTF?"

So yeah, it gets better.

I'm currently playing TF2, CoD4, Mass Effect and AoE3.

CoD4 here as well. I <3 my P90 and G36 w/ grenade launcher. My buddy argues that grenade launchers are "lame", but he's just mad because I use it to kill him whenever he's sniping. Also it's rather handy for clearing claymores.

Also I've been playing Garry's Mod quite a bit; getting to learn the ins&outs of wiremod. Is fun!

Oh and to address the question of the thread.

Boo. I must be one of the only people not a fan of Mass Effect. The combat is awesome, but I would rather have a nice long linear game than a non-linear short game with random exploration as filler.

Your buddy is right. Noob tubes are lame when you use them as your main method of attack. It gets you kicked off a lot of servers out there.

I've been following this... they look to be almost done at this point. There's also a leaked beta of their restoration going around, but I've waited this long, I can wait a bit longer for the real thing.

- Poking at EVE with a friend after we finally gave up on WoW. Kestrel is a happy bird.

- Tried Psychonauts and it seemed pretty interesting but promised really tedious farming to progress anything, and I haven't really had the time care or attention span for SP games in a long time.
Also, I can kill you with my brain.

I just got the orange box mainly cause of portal and tf2. But I am giving the half life episodes a chance despite thinking that HL2 was dreadfully mediocre. And I'm also playing some UT 3 on the side.

Agreed.

As for me, I'm currently playing NWN2, Mass Effect, and PES 2008. The latter is mostly for a break from the other two when I feel a bit tired of RPG-ing.

Well seeing that my graphic chip tells me to "f*** off" whenever there is a little bit of heat, I can't get much gaming in. It's usually TF2 but I'm having fun with STALKER with the Oblivion Lost mod.

The exact same, heat and all.

STALKER w/ OL has me pretty bad, I'm just hooked on going around trying out different artifact recipes. Currently I'm completely immune to all elemental damage and radiation thanks to those efforts. Just gotta get the bullet-reflecting artifact and the only thing I'll have left to fear are the springboard and vortex anomalies.

There is another mod for stalker called AMK. Anyone try it out?
