Anyone have an nvidia 6800 or 7800 AGP card for sale?
2008-07-22, 9:22 PM #1
I want to buy a used 6800 or 7800 AGP graphics card, preferably cheap. I don't care if it's the low-memory one, but it has to be AGP and it has to work. Anyone have one for sale or one that they would sell if an offer was made?

P.S. I'm upgrading from an FX 5900, so hopefully the two cards I've listed above are significantly faster than my current one. I'd rather have the 7800 but they seem to be going for over $100 on ebay which is a little pricey for me.

i've got a 6600 lying around somehwere and a few ATI cards that are closer to thee speed you're looking for. i'll dig for them and test them.

Isn't the 6600 slower than the FX 5900? I'm not sure ATI will work, the problem is that I use them almost exclusively in linux and the nvidia drivers rock. ATI linux drivers are considered problematic by many but I've never tried them.

depends... in 3dmark and certain games the 5900 is a tad faster
in doom3 (and i'd assume other doom3 engine titles) the 6600 stomps the 5900

in newer games... HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

I'm on a GF 7600GT, which I guess still isn't horrible. I bet you can get them for less than $100 in the US now.
Looks like we're not going down after all, so nevermind.

Why do you want either of these cards? They're pretty much useless for anything made past 2006. Trust me I know, I've got one around the same age, just ATI.

EDIT: wait I take that back, the 7800 might still run some things OK with SLI.

READ

AGP = no SLI

plus i can handle some newer games with my 7800GS... crysis demo ran like a fat kid uphill but i was trying some settings that i knew wouldn't work so great and didn't feel like fooling with it.. but both UE3 games i've tested (UT3 and bioshock) run just fine without looking fugly

and again AGP limits your options... and brian wants nvidia because he uses linux... linux drivers are better on the nvidia side.. so the absolute top end option he could possibly get without a new computer is a 7950GT

I want to run the games I have better. For example, I'd like to finish doom3 and I'd like to run quake4 without lowering everything. I think with a newer card I'd be over 30FPS instead of dipping below every time something happens in-game and I'd be able to run at higher resolutions with more options. The FX 5900 is pretty much crap, according to everyone I know. I'm not quite ready to buy a whole new computer for myself right now anyway.

I happen to have one just laying around but it's PCI-e...

I just ordered a 6800 off ebay for 40 bucks including shipping, hopefully it arrives and works. Thanks anyway, everyone.

Oh that explains it.

And yeah I know he meant AGP, I was more pointing out that the only worthwhile one would be SLI.

On the brightside, video cards have come down quite a ways, but given the previously quoted situation, that doesn't help much.
