Ridiculous weather stories

So here am I in good old houston texas, sleeping at about 8 30 in the morning and this bolt of lightning and thunder comes crashing through my dreams and wakes me up like a shotgun blast to the face. Next second I hear a rattle and a crash and one of my windows has blown itself out! Luckily its not a big one, just about 5"x10" out of a larger frame. What crazy weather things have you guys experienced?

As I walked out of the dentist's office about half an hour ago, it started pouring canines and felines, and I had parked a block away. That's not terribly ridiculous, but it just happened and I wanted to share.

Snow. Past couple of winters have been unbarably cold (for San Diego). Snow crept down to like 3,000ft one point.
Code to the left of him, code to the right of him, code in front of him compil'd and thundered. Programm'd at with shot and $SHELL. Boldly he typed and well. Into the jaws of C. Into the mouth of PERL. Debug'd the 0x258.

A couple weeks ago, I had to pull over and wait for the rain to chill a bit. I couldn't see a thing.

I almost wanted to go down to the coast and ride out the hurricane, I like bad weather.

I considered being a storm chaser at one time until I found out very few of them get paid, and even fewer get paid good.

I live in Oklahoma. Our weather is hardcore. Next week is supposed to be 103 degrees F at around 30% humidity. During spring we are regularly under a tornado watch, often under a warning, and we get along with that hail and torrential downpours. It also snows, but not too bad.

As far as specific weather stories? A year or two ago we got some pretty bad flooding due to storms around our area and north of it causing our river to overflow its banks. That was the summer I worked on a septic truck and also delivered portable toilets, and there were roads cut off everywhere. I saw a car sticking up like a bobber on a fishing line in the middle of the street in a neighborhood a few hundred feet from downtown.

You'd think living in oklahoma i'd have some sweet tornado stories, but nope. We've been lucky!

Lightning hit my chimney when I was like 2.

It left a gigantic hole in the side of my house. I seem to recall being pretty pleased.

I remember hail the size of golf balls in South Africa when I was a small kid.

More recently in Wales I experienced a white-out in a blizzard for a little bit; your sense of distance gets completely screwed. British mountains are also rather good at funneling wind strong enough to knock you clean off your feet. I should probably try going in the summer more often :P

^ If he didn't miss it would stand to reason he would not also make people as dumb as you.

Caught a bit of a hurricane while it was still called a hurricane many years back. I thought it was fun.

I hate that it is hot (and humid) why is it not raining? Rain better than sunny, always.

Hey if he didn't make people like me, you'd have nothing better to talk about.

Summer 2006. I was in Wyoming but Northern California had insane heat waves, it was 115+ for a couple days in a row in my home town. I came home from vacation to find the plexi-glass T-Tops on my 91 Camaro had melted into the car.

I replaced them with glass ones :-p

I had snow in May, once. And they actually closed the school. Bearing in mind they only ever close the school if it's less than absolute zero, I'd say that was pretty crazy.

crazy weather stuff?
One of the crazy weather things I think I will always remember is taking shelter in a back room produce cooler of a grocery store while tornado sirens blared.

Insanely powerful thunderstorms and lightining going off like a strobe light. High winds and mini tornados. It was about 7 years ago in Rochester NY on labor day weekend. The local meterologists dubbed it a "microburst". It was extremely odd.

Other then that I too experienced lightning and thunder when it was snowing. It was brief, but very puzzling.
