...of people that own an Xbox 360. So far, I only have Grand Theft Auto IV and Gears of War, and I still have yet to try either on Live, though I'd really like to give GTA IV a try. I go by khiith, so if anyone is interested in playing GTA IV, let me know.

So, to make this a real thread, post your favorite Xbox 360 games.

So far I loved GTA IV, but it has no real replay value to me. I can still play vice city and love every moment.

Assassin's Creed is a good one, only $25 used at GS now.

I have other games (got 7 with my console) but I don't really play them. I havent even cracked open GOW.... dunno why.

Mass Effect and Call of Duty 4 are must haves. Rock Band is obscenely fun, as well as Bioshock, if you haven't played it. Lost Odyssey and Eternal Sonata are both pretty good jRPGs for the system (They both have their little issues, but they're good games).

I cannot stress enough for you to get Mass Effect. Easily the best game I've played since half-life 2.

GTA IV is a good pick up and run game, play it whenever you feel like it. I just bought a 360 and only have GTA IV as well. I used to play my roommates so that's how I know about other games, decided I should get my own though. Is Rock Band really worth $169?

Mass Effect is a gem for sure, I forgot it was on X360, I played it on PC and LOVED it... one of the best Sci Fi stories on a console in a while.

I like GTA4, but all the time I was playing it I was thinking how it wasn't as cool or as fun as San Andreas. I loved the epicness of some San Andreas missions, as well as the whole driving-around-the-country thing. Driving around one city just doesn't cut it anymore.

Gears of War is the best shooter ever made.

If you disagree, it's because you suck at it.

Incidentally, I currently have a 360 for sale on ebay, with a wireless controller and seven games. :ninja:

I really liked Gears of War also. Check out xbox live arcade, there are some cool games on there. Halo3 was pretty good, nothing spectacular. We will probably replay it when we get HD TV. We like coop games, tons of fun.

Not that thing again. Yes, the host can track easier, because they don't have to shoot ahead. But you can also track the host easier. At higher levels of play, host advantage don't mean squat. I kick the host's *** regularly, and regularly get my *** kicked while playing as host.

UT is great, and the new one DOES have Baird in it, but the small-squad tactical stuff is really much better.

I like kill. Kill works for me. I hate relying on intertards across the world who run in circles shooting at the floor going "OMFGLAG".

"Higher levels", please.

The host advantage is one-sided advantage, anyone who told you this "tracking the host" bogus crap was lying through their teeth.

All you need for guaranteed victory is a torque bow, shotgun, and host.

If it wasn't such a big problem, they wouldn't have made a specific mention of it in one of their announcements, that it would finally be fixed in GoW2.

I loved GTAIV, but I too, find no replayability in it, I've gone back to San Andreas.
My problem with the x-box 360 is it seems to be very fps orientated, and I'd much rather play those on pc

As someone who played shooters religiously and previously thought that rhythm games were lame and for "casual" wii-ish gamers....

YES. I've already spent WAY more than 300$ on Rock Band, and I intend to spend at least 360$ more in the near future. If you like rock music, RB will not disappoint. Easily my GoTY for 2008, and I play a LOT of games.

Gears and CoD4 are incredibly good console shooters. Definitely both must haves - MP is fantastic for both games.

Mass Effect is an insanely good game, but it's definitely not for everyone. It requires some patience and you will need to have a bit of an attention span if you want to make it through the story/dialogue.

GTAIV/Assassin's Creed definitely passes imo. Rent if you want to check them out. GTA4 MP had no staying power for me, and I got bored of the SP. Everything in AC is a total joke except for the way you move around the world. I guess AC can have a nod for graphics as well, but IMO gameplay is what makes a game.

Wait until Rock Band 2 comes out... it's only a few months away.

And then if you want you can buy the disc-only version or Rock Band and import all the songs.

Nobody told me. I play the game. A lot. I know things about it you don't. I know that I can pick the host out easily; their heads come off quicker.

I think I'll take CliffyB's word over yours, sorry. (Especially since how the host advantage works simply would not allow for what you're describing)

Rock Band is good, but the drums were a poor investment for me. I just got into playing them. I ended up selling them. Guitar is great, though.

If you want good games to play on Live, get CoD4 and Halo 3 (you already have Gears). Each of those three kept me on Live every day of the week for months when each was released.

Anyone played BF: Bad Company yet?
2008-07-26, 12:26 PM #27
Rock Band isn't worth getting for guitar since it's too easy and not as fun as Guitar Hero, Green Grass and High Tides is a lot of fun on expert though. Rock Band is good for drums, except my bass pedal broke :(

For people who aren't GH gods like you and buck, Rock Band is often more fun because it's more accessible. I also vastly prefer the song selection and DLC. Rock Band is a better party game because of vocals and the drum option, though honestly every party I've been to that featured Rock Band sucked. It ends up being like 6-7 people who actually want to play, and everyone else just watching them, bored.

I do own GH3 as well, for the record.

Host advantage is nothing more than network latency. You have the same latency to the host as they have to you. Furthermore, there are things you simply can't do when you're host, like wall-bouncing.

And here's a real shocker. CliffyB is a designer. How much do you really think he plays gears, while he's working on gears2? And do you think he really goes home at night, after working on video games all day, and plays video games? He also has to market gears2. What does that mean? It means appeasing the masses who get raped and like to blame it on 'host advantage'.

Want to know a little secret? If you suck, you suck, whether you have host or not. And many people, myself included, will tell you that we are much more effective when there is just the right amount of lag. Not too much; but still a little bit of it.

That's how we do that **** where we shotgun you while bouncing off walls, see. :D

Who cares when you no longer need to compensate for any lag when shooting? And yes, it is nothing more than latency, except that the host is unaffected by it because the game counts all his hits locally, verses the other clients requiring the host to confirm all hits. Thus, even if you are shooting at the host, there is still lag.

Wallbouncing is irrelevant to the massive advantage of being host.

And as a designer I think he'd know a helluva lot more about it than you would. If the masses say it's an advantage then it's an advantage. Since, you know, it's the majority of the players. That's like saying all exploits in games should be left in because it's not the pro's fault that they know how to exploit them.

And if everyone sucks, the host will win. And if everyone is pro, then the pro host will win. Your point is decidedly nullified.

I just bought the 40gig PS3 off of my brother for $250. I like it so far. I've played an Xbox 360 before and thought it was alright. So far, Call of Duty 4 rocks out. I plan to rent GTAIV sometime. Really, I'm just biding my time til Madden 09 comes out and The Force Unleashed.

With what you're playing you could have just stuck with the 360 and played all the exclusives. Plus, the 40GB version is gimped all to hell.
2008-07-27, 11:07 AM #34
Sony's actually dropping the 40GB and just making 80GB. Too bad they still don't have ps2 backwards-compatibility. :(

I have also just recently joined the ranks of Xbox 360 users... *cough*... :ninja:

I just beat GoW last week, also picked up Perfect Dark Zero, Tenchu 2, and Lost Odyssey to go with it. Plus a Live Gold account.

Anyone up for some co-op?

I like Guitar Hero 3, and I just recently got Call of Duty 4 and Assassin's Creed. All 3 are awesome.

I'm not allowed to play GTA IV...it looked pretty fun when I saw someone else playing it though...and stealing a flatbed or semi or whatever it's called.

I'm really waiting for The Force Unleashed.
2008-07-27, 6:25 PM #37
Mass Effect, CoD4 and Bioshock are all pretty much musts. Halo 3 if you played and liked the other two. Oblivion's a lot of fun and if you're anything like me, you'll get hours of gameplay out of it. Assassin's Creed I liked well enough to recommend, flawed as it is.

Except I still would have paid around the same price unless I got a refurbished, which since I bought the PS3 off my younger brother, I know what's up with it. Besides, I've never been into Halo that much or any of the exclusive Xbox games. Everything that I want to play either is on PS3 or PC. Plus, I don't do a lot of multiplayer anyway. Not knocking the Xbox 360, I just don't think its the right console for me. And I've had no problems with the 40 gig version. What gimpage are you talking about? If its the backwards compatibility, that's why I kept my PS2.
