most generic baddies (poll)

Which types of baddies do you think are most overused in any fictional work (book, movie, game, comic, etc.)?

If you chose other, please post what that other option is.

The poll should include:
Nazis
zombies
demons
robots
aliens
clones
terrorists
ninjas
Jepmen
other

I see no poll.

Polls always take a moment -- that's why I included the list in the post itself. :P

Oh, and I voted ninjas because unlike most of the others, ninjas are usually there to show how much cooler the player's badass character is, so... *shrug*

All but clones and ninjas.

You say all, and yet you didn't vote for Jepmen. Curious...

Also, I'd have to wonder what a Jepman baddie would be like. For some reason I envision space molemen.

I had to go Jepmen because I don't feel any of them are overused. My gut feeling was Nazis but, upon further reflection, I believe they have been used perfectly appropriately. I love games where they are the fanatsy villians such as Return to Castle Wolfenstein.

You know, someone needs to explain to me the plot of Return to Castle Wolfenstein in a way that anyone can understand it. I played that game so many times and, to this day, I never understood what the hell was happening toward the end of the game.

I think you forgot the "emotionless oppressors of a totalitarian regime in a dystopian future". Seems like the sort of thing is getting way too popular, especially this day and age of increased surveillance (i.e. Big Brother, The Matrix, the Combine, Tetragrammaton Council, V for Vendetta.. I could go on.)

ECHOMAN: Actually, I agree with you there. I just didn't put it down because I couldn't think of a short way to describe it.

Code to the left of him, code to the right of him, code in front of him compil'd and thundered. Programm'd at with shot and $SHELL. Boldly he typed and well. Into the jaws of C. Into the mouth of PERL. Debug'd the 0x258.

Are you people kidding. Zombies are easily the most overused, especially in video games.

People are overused. Nazis, zombies, clones, terrorists, ninjas, Jepmen are all essentially people. Demons, robots and aliens are the same in spirit (typically being intelligent and humanoid).

If you want a creative enemy you have to look outside of the box. How about a group of villainous butterflies?

The best villains are AI gone mad, ala Deus Ex.

it's interesting how you picked that particular example over System Shock and Marathon.

This poll needs more sociopaths. They make the best villians. Cold, calculating, and utterly remorseless.

So then you could vote for them as "most overused"? Wow.

I'd check all of those boxes since I prefer Siberian snowllamas.

Zombies may be overused, but I have yet to tire of them.

Shodan is an excellent villain, but I actually found the AI characters in Deus Ex more compelling. Shodan seems clichéed in comparison. But then, not all the AIs in Deus Ex were villainous.

Zombies first and foremost.
Also bugs should be in the list.

I don't see how nazis are overused apart from Indiana Jones and in war films.
nope.

well I think nazis are overused in the same way ww2 games & movies are overused.

Not butterflies, but the most hilariously bad movie I have seen in a long, long time.
