Doing ok here.
It was 30 miles from my house.

A bridge at the Irvine Spectrum was cracked in 3 places, I just drove by it 10 minutes ago. I'm going to go take pictures.

I had to get rear ended and pushed into the car in front of me to get this picture home for everyone to see. (and no, it happened on the way home, not when I took the picture)

Isn't that what it's supposed to do?

And last I heard, minimal damage and no injuries.

Looks like it, yeah.

Then again, I'm from the east coast. Our ground doesn't usually squirm. ;)

Yeah, that's an expansion joint. It's meant to take up movement primarily from temperature differences during the day (which is why bridge decks are erected on a morning when the temperature is both pretty cool and relatively easy to predict), but I would expect in Earthquake zones they're also designed to help keep bridges up when a quake hits.

I don't think anyone was wounded dead or missing. Just minor damage.

Those are pictures of 2 bridges actually. There were a total of about 4-5 sections between them that were separated.

Nothing collapsed or anything, one of the bridges they still allowed people to drive over it.

This.

You're taking photos of a normal part of a bridge, it's just there so that each section can expand or shrink a little without causing increased stresses or buckling. Railway lines have similar expansion joints.

I don't know how anyone there didn't feel it, supposedly they felt it as far away as las vegas. (According to NBC News.)

When did it happen? Last night I was sitting outside with my feet resting on my diving board and I could swear I felt vibrations through it. One time a few years ago there was another earthquake in Cali and our chandelier was swaying...

Which was my point. We have an 'everyone ok' thread when, by all reports, everyone is ok. I'm just a grouch and get annoyed by emo threads/posts. Besides, if someone isn't ok we likely will never know.

This didn't seem like an emo thread.

I couldn't think of a better term to describe it. The sort of kneejerk thread that occurs whenever something occurs somewhere, where massassians are questioned as to whether or not they are okay. It's really not a big deal but, like I said, there were no reports of injuries so I thought the thread title and op were funny.
