make an autoexec.cfg with this line in it

set com_allowconsole "1"

then you no longer need to hold ctrl and alt to use the console

and it has to be an autoexec because adding that line to the existing doomconfig.cfg only works once then after it disappears from the cfg file for some reason

And for easier editor access, copy your shortcut to Doom3 and name it DoomEdit, then go to the properties and add the follwing to the end of the target field, after the quotes: com_allowConsole 1 +set r_fullscreen 0 +editor

Then just double click the new shortcut to auto-start the editor, instead of having to start Doom and type 'editor' in the console.

I also added...

seta com_videoram "256"

...to my autoexec as the game would sometimes misreport the amount of ram my videocard has.
