TECH problems with Video Card
2008-08-08, 10:07 AM #1
Hey. more computer problems. bought a brand new AGP Asus AH3650 ATi video card. installed it. works fine when it does, but there are two strange things happening

1) some text has changed color. like, for example, on a website like ultimate-guitar, the links are yellow. now they're cyan. it's not on images, only on text.

2) after about 5-10 minutes in a game, the card stops responding, black screen. i just got a blue screen moments ago.

now, i have 2 IDE HDD's, an audigy soundcard with the front drive plugged in. one DVD disc and a DVD burner. and the video card, which also needs to be powered by the PSU. it's a 450w on AMD Nforce K7 mobo on a barton 2800+ CPU. Windows XP SP3.

think it's a power supply issue?

Well firstly its a really new card built for Vista which aint gonna help (but a quick google shows a few people using it with xp).

Secondly its passive cooled, so I hope your systems got good cooling because the problem you descibe (not the web text problem) can be heat related.

could be the PSU... but first you are using the latest drivers right?
eat right, exercise, die anyway

yep. first thing I did. straight from the ASus website. 8.452

any program i could use to monitor the heat? it's a shame because the card does wonder for graphical performance, if only i could actually play a game instead of constantly rebooting.

the card itself is fine. The store i bought it from had to test another machine with AGP slots and my card just came in so they used it to run WoW for over an hour. gave me a 10$ rebate for that. but i know the card works.

I ran a similar setup, 2 disc drives, 2 hard drives, 9800 Pro, various other cards, barton 2500+, asus A7N8X Deluxe board... on an Antec TRUE430 PSU. The only issues I ever had were trying to run 333FSB and use the Q3 engine. Reboots all day.
