famous computer game glitches.

I have been browesing some old massassi posts (circa Q1 2005), and found an interesting topic.

I was wondering if there would be any difference after 3 years.

I have to say that while the missingno glitch is still quite famous, I think that the recent EVE online patch that caused computers to get FUBARed is probably going to eclipse most of the stuff that I could think of.

There was that Myth glitch that would kill your pc when you tried to uninstall it.
One of my favorite glitches would be the freeze floating glitch of Toe Jam and Earl 2. But that's far from famous

As I recall, though, it was patched within hours and had single-digit users impact.
Also, I can kill you with my brain.

I got a glitch the other day in Evil Dead Resurrection when I tried to kill something its model just fused to Ash and I couldn't continue the game.

I also discovered a glitch in Metroid Zero Mission involving not being able to continue the game because you killed one certain boss with the screw attack and the animation for the boss's death froze

WoW had quite a few noteworthy bugs throughout it's life time. One of the most famous was the "corrupted plaque" outbreak: (http://www.wowwiki.com/Corrupted_Blood).

Another funny one was during the 1.9 patch on the PTR where someone discovered a bug involving a paladin talent that was allowing paladins to summon Kodo mounts after casting a spell called Judgement of Righteousness. It was so funny and very strange in how the heck Blizzard's code could be so screwed up to even allow such a completely unrelated effect of summoning a mount instead of a spell effect.

There were two other bugs during the closed beta for the TBC expansion that was quite amusing and frustrating for some players in the beta.

One of them involved accidental model swap with the Fel Reaver that roamed around in the Hellfire Peninsula zone. Instead of being a giant robot monster, it was replaced with a small gray bear! So many players were quite by surprised when they heard the sound of the fel reaver from far away only to see a small bear run up to them and kill them in one hit! It was nick named the "bear reaver" and many players would joke around making bear puns in the zone's chat.

The other bug had to do with a glitch with the female Naga model in the Zangermarsh zone. The glitch involved a display bug with the portraits of the female naga that if a player were to target one of them, the bug would cause the client to crash. Many testers avoided the zone for a while to avoid targeting these bugged mobs. Even if they didn't try to target them, if one of these mobs were accidentally aggroed, the player would automatically target them and BAM! instant crash.

Not a computer game, but N64's Goldeneye 007 - Paintbrush. That is all.

MechWarrior 3 had a problem where small vehicles would, for some reason, start bouncing up and down and flipping in mid-air. Other times, some mechs would look like a Jedi Knight model with the wrong animations applied (disjointed and completely scrambled).

Pools of Radiance supposedly formatted your hard drive if you uninstalled it.

In Team Fortress 2, when a round ends and everyone's frozen, you can sometimes kill yourself and respawn as a scout. I haven't gotten to the point where I've found someone I can kill, but I've been trying.

I remember in the N64/PC game Glover, there was this glitch where you would fall through the floor in one of the Atlantis levels.

But you would keep falling, and falling, and falling.

You had to shut the game off, lol.

Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines, for some unknown reason, implemented boob physics, where the busty female characters, when turning, would sway. However, sometimes the game would screw up and one or both breasts would not stop swinging.

I had to turn on subtitles because I was looking at the bottom of the screen all the time, regardless.

I remember in MOtS one time, in the first level, two rebel soldiers were running against each other. This caused them to spin in place, as if they were ballroom dancing. It was pretty hilarious.

Oblivion and Morrowind are practically built on their bugs.

My favorite from Oblivion: The zero-weight paintbrush trick. Basically, paintbrushes in the game had no weight, meaning they would float in midair. Using these you could create staircases wherever you liked.

Boobs make you deaf?

Messiah frequently had the falling through the floor forever glitch when passing through the doors that loaded one zone to the next. However, your main character could flutter a bit so if you caught yourself falling through the floor quickly enough you could flap back out :P

If you try to play Call of Duty with a Dual Core processor, several things in the game would break, but it was quite a random lot. In the car escape scene, you couldn't lean out the window to shoot. Also, when the car would go down an alley, a tank was supposed to spawn behind a wall, and cause you to turn, except when it didn't, you did all of the right stuff, but you were supposed to get out of the car, and it wouldn't let you.

I don't know if you would consider this a glitch, but Jedi knights crappy checksumming system has to be up there. "Heres an Idea, lets the the players still join as long as some arbitrary numbers match up, and who cares about file size anyways?"

In the Return to Castle Wolfenstein Multiplayer (before the final patch), if you get shot down and revived by a medic, your "power" bar would return to 100%. The power bar was in charge of things such as the Panzerfaust and Airstrikes to prevent spamming. Now if you were a Lieutenant, bound a /kill key and had a companion medic at your side, you could literally level the field with an insane amount of airstrikes over and over again.

There was also a glitch in RtCW MP in which if you held a grenade, used the binoculars, hold down a lean and attack button, you could spawn infinite nades exploding over and over a particular area. Obviously, you could no longer do that in Enemy Territory.

Speaking of ET, there was one memorable glitch in the map Goldrush that actually "balanced" the damn playing field. Goldrush is notorious because it favors Axis to such a degree, and it was all because of the bottleneck in the bank (where you had to steal the crates of gold). Now for some strange reason, if you were an Allied field ops and you send an airstrike flare at the back outside of the bank, the area of effect of the bombs would be felt on the inside. What this means is that all those campers near the gold would be killed off; that was significant because there are always ALOT of Axis campers in there.

Yeah, the physics in DX2 were pretty funny. You'd bump into a chair and Alex would punt it across the room.

No, but all the female characters wore low-cut tops, hence the joke.

What about the invisible upright corpses in Gears? You're shooting through thin air above some dead guy, except you're not. I have to wonder how disgusting Epic's code really is to even a allow a glitch that lets you roadie run in all directions while firing a shotgun out your ***. (Seriously.) I mean. Couldn't they patch it just by adding a couple of checks to the firing code?

The real Mew glitch in Pokemon Red/Blue, which, admittedly, wasn't discovered until years after Pokemon fever had died down.

heh, i posted about that before, though my prediction about a new glitch being found for the GBA games has not come true, though emerald had an easy risk free (if you know what you are doing) method of cloning, so people with the event legendaries could just make copies of them and give them out after transfering them.

Also, in Final Fantasy 7, the duping elixers glitch came in handy a few times. Damn magic pots.

I remember reading about the first one (Ultima Online) in PC Gamer. What this story doesn't mention is that Rainz stole the Firewall spell from a guard and THEN cast it on Lord British, killing him. I remember laughing my butt off when I read that.

Tetris that comes with Windows (probably doesn't apply to Vista though),
If you get too high a score (32768 I believe), your score goes negative.
