Fable 2

Has anyone been keeping up with Fable 2 that is slated to come out in october?

I had not kept up with it, but I just read over the wikipedia article on it and read several previews. I must say, I'm totally hyped now. This seems to be getting closer to the original plan for fable with a free roaming world rather than a short-lived linear story line.

I hope they get rid of the stupid age system. Besides not having any real purpose, if taken seriously jacks with continuity so bad. "10 minutes ago I was 35....now I'm 48? But the little kid over there tripping on blue shrooms that I met when I was 22 is still a little kid...WTF!?"

I'll believe it when I see it.

Not sure why people are getting hyped up for Fable 2. Didn't we learn a valuable lesson from Fable 1? The hype ruined a fairly decent game.

I loved Fable 1, so I'm not too worried. I bought the original, and later bought Lost Chapters. Its the only game I've ever beat more than once, and heck, I've beat it around 8 times. By this time near release, for Fable 1, we knew that it was going to be more linear than originally planned.

I'm just hopeful. And I'm well aware Peter Molyneux is a huge talker.

Bah its 500 years after the events of the original story. Its not a continuation of the story (which was wrapped up in Lost Chapters) so you dont have to worry about continuity.

Personally, the biggest feature I hope for is free-roaming rather than the linear approach.

That lesson applies to every single game ever produced. Yet we virtually always ignore it. Why? Because there's always a chance a game WILL live up to the hype, even if the last didn't.

But you have to admit, Fable 1's hype was huge. Not sure how one measures "hype" though and how it compares, let's say, Half Life 2, Halo 3, Enter the Matrix. Atleast it wasn't another ...Daikatana.

Aye agreed. Of course, when it was introduced as Project Ego, and in the first few months when it was renamed to Fable, it was introduced as an entirely different game. A living, breathing elderscroll-type free roaming game where the hero's actions could affect the world in very drastic ways. They even planned to have trees grow with your character's age and such.

While it continued to garner hype, some of those changes and limitations were announced, but previews did not touch on some of them, most importantly the short campaign. Most were expecting some along the lines of Morrowind, which had several dozen hours of gameplay, and what we recieved was a game that eventually could be beat within 5 hours. No dragons, no free-roaming, no co-op, no children, and the only replay value was finding all the keys hidden around the world.

So I totally get your point.

Thankfully, even in the state it came out as, I adored Fable 1 and The Lost Chapters, so if the upcoming title lives up to the original franchise and includes even half the stuff mentioned on the Fable 2 wikipedia page, it'll be amazing.

Free roaming is currently the highest selling point for me.

And right now the actually story campaign is evaluated at around 12 hours if you blast through it, which is double the original.

Here's to hoping. I'm hyped, but I'm not painting myself a false picture!

How bizzare of a game would it be to combine Bioshock and Fable together..

Most reserved game in my Gamestop right now. I have people ask about it on the daily so I've been keeping up with it alright.

Something like STALKER: Clear Sky?

Oh man, the only game I'm really looking forward to at the moment. But that's a different thread topic.

It's not just Fable - every single one of this guy's games has been a huge disappointment for me.

edit: all the Lionhead studios era games, anyways

The problem with Peter Molyneux his that he promises things that he, simply put, never delivers. Thats kind of why you need to read the facts about the game rather than listen to his ludicrous babbling.
