Alright, most of you who play console RPGs would likely say that the best offline RPG was FF7, if not 7, then probably an FF title. I could be wrong but I know its definately one of the top 5 most popular RPG titles of all time.

That being said, I would like to say that I have actually discovered one better. Persona 3 FES. (FES is an extended version of Persona 3, don't bother getting the original) If you haven't played it, or never heard of it, check it out. It's something like $30 new for PS2, a solid 70+ hours of gameplay, and definately one of THE BEST stories I have had the pleasure of playing through in any game.

Note that this game is not appropriate for all ages as it has plenty of language, sexual references, partial nudity, ect ect....

Morrowind was my favorite.

I don't find there is any roleplaying to do in a final fantasy game. You play a predetermined character, follow a set storyline, do number crunching in combat, voila.

I've never played an Atlus game, but I know their Persona series is pretty popular. I've also never played FF7.

I actually preferred Tales of Phantasia by atlus. That I think might be my favorite RPG.

Morrowind is more of a sandbox design, like Oblivion right? Sandbox designs are way better than the typical linear RPG, but IMO the stories aren't as good...

I don't ever roleplay in RPGs anyway, which is why I like the story-driven ones.

Me too.

I want Chrono Trigger now please.

I just don't get why one would call them an RPG.

Its not roleplay! You're not playing a role, you're playing a predefined character just like you would in a first person shooter. A little minor number crunching and costumization doesn't make an RPG. :P

Of course this is just my opinion, these games were labeled RPG's probably around the time I was 4. haha

Well, you are playing a role, you just dont have the choice to change it. I do think it would be nice to have a title change for each type though...

Meh... I'm just ready to play The Answer, part of Persona 3 (its like a short game after the events of The Journey) and then get my hopes up for Persona 4 this December.

The only RPGs I could tolerate and enjoy are Super Mario RPG, Paper Mario series and Chrono Trigger because they don't take themselves so seriously. Otherwise, I find RPGs so sleep inducing.

Super Mario RPG was awesome, I only wish it was even longer (or if lvl 30 wasn't the max).

They're RPGs because they use gameplay elements derived from tabletop/pen and paper RPGs like D&D. That's all it means.

Yeah Persona 3 was definitely a fun game although I can see it being repetitive for some people. I haven't played FES and I don't have much of a desire to because I put in so many hours with finishing the original (like 110 hours). How's that new epilogue? Does it wrap up the story nicely?

I'm sorry it didn't feature amnesia and androgynous males.

The localization of the Paper Mario series is great. Atleast it terms of humor.

Shadow Hearts: Covenant was the best RPG, if not the best game, I have ever played.

You assume different roles in combat though - mage, warrior, archer, etc. It used to be in some of the older FF games that you had direct input on what class you wanted your character to be and thus the role the character was going to assume in battle (and you still do, although the FFX and XII system is more dynamic, and while it encourages specialization, everyone can eventually become a jack of all trades).

Is an Action Adventure game, not an RPG.
