Yeah what the heck? Why is there no mention of this on Pandora's own blog? I think the writer is mistaken and referring to an event that is quite a while in the past.

They were changed from the SUPER exorbitant prices, raised to 2x what traditional radio stations have to pay. Because, ya know, why not.

Can someone explain this situation to me? Is Pandora supposed to be a non-profit service? I read that they have to pay $0.0018 / song or a $500 annual minimum fee.

I feel like I must be missing something here because last year in Canada 'traditional radio stations' had to pay 7.7 cents / minute for a song under five minutes in length, which is much more than a fraction of a cent for the entire tune.
