Warhammer Online has been a cruel mistress to me so far. When I found out about it on deployment, it was slated to come out in the spring. I was happy since it would have time to release and work the bugs out before I got back and could play. I get back and find out it's been pushed back several months.

I decide to pre-order it and I wait expectantly for August 15th, putting far too much hope in having a month long open beta. No dice. They announce it starts weeks later, and my blue balls grow larger.

I had heard about the beta weekend, but I hadn't put much stock into getting an invite. Then this morning, TADA! I have an e-mail in my inbox saying I've been invited! YAY! WOOHOO! YIPPY! Oh, wait, it's this weekend? SONUVA*****! I have a stupid, pointless, and ridiculous 3-day post-deployment national guard drill this weekend. Oh fate, you truly hate me, don't you?

All that needs to be done now is for WAR to be a completely trash game, then my hopes will be completely crushed.

Alright, that's enough of that. Now to the point of this thread. For those who intend to pick it up, what are you most looking forward to and what class do you intend to play first?

I'm most looking forward to the character collision. It makes tank classes actually worthwhile in PvP. I plan on playing the Engineer first. I like guns. And grenades. And flamethrowing turrets. And being an insane ranged fort defender.

YAY WOW 2.0! I honestly can't bring myself to bring another high-fantasy MMO. Not with wow-like cartoonesque graphics. Just browsing throught the warhammer screenshots makes me want to punch the screen. Its sad too, because I really loved the Warhammer fantasy setting.

This game is a ****ton better than WoW.

It's still just about as boring as any other MMO because clicky do math for me gameplay is an incredible ****ing drain on my fun-ometer.

I've been playing beta on and off for a few months, it's alright. I'm not going to buy it though.

I'm sure there might be some aspects that are better, but the auto-attack combat remains a snooze fest that I just can't stomach anymore, and the graphics retain that annoyingly retarded cartoonesque style. Can we have real shading please, instead of this half-cartoon, half-realistic crap?

If only Age of Conan didn't blow at everything but graphics (which arent that great either excluding jungles and characters.)

Oh boy are you in for a disappointment. Once people start abusing this (guild members lining up to block a street in a city), it'll go the route of AoC : An ability to pass through people (which doubles your damage intake in pvp).

The game was designed with this in mind and accounts for it.

Please elaborate. Or are you still bound to NDA?

I think I can use the following two words;

Siege weaponry

Er, AoC has siege weaponry. It doesn't stop the fact that griefers will abuse the character collision in places where Siege weaponry isn't available (in cities). What is to stop say 5 griefers to line up in a hall or road to block the path to same-faction players in a city?

This sounds dumb, but sadly in this day's MMORPGs, morons like that run amock.

Preview weekend starts tomorrow!

Warrior Priests look fabulous. Also black orcs. Yep.
Also, I can kill you with my brain.

I think I'm going to end up trying Shadow Warrior first, now that I've looked at the classes more. Skirmishing looks like it will be fun.

From what I've played, here's my take on it(fyi, I've only gotten to level 7 with both Shadow Warrior and Bright Wizard).

-There are some bugs that currently exist, like issues with some mob pathing and animation desynchs. This is to be expected.
-The high elf area blows. It's not interesting or exciting and I was repeatedly crashing in the public quest areas as well as the High Elf/Dark Elf scenario(think: battleground).
-The empire starting area and PQ is awesome.
-Even though both High elf and dark elf males are far from masculine, you can make them ugly as sin, which is nice. I had a high elf with probably three scars and had an empty eye socket while the other eye was blood red.
-From what I've heard, classes have different power curves. For instance, Disciples of Khaine from 8-20 are complete monsters while Shadow Warriors become very powerful 30+. However, at 40, the classes are more or less balanced.
-In PvP, nothing dies very quickly. Everyone has a ton of hitpoints, takes awhile to bring people down, and even as a Bright Wizard I felt like I was spitting instead of hurling fireballs of death. This may change in the higher tiers, according to some of the closed beta test reviews I've read.

This is what stood out to me the most. I might write some more later.

Yes, but you probably cannot kill your own faction members.
