Star Wars Galaxies Retrospective

I figure a game like Star Wars Galaxies should warrant its own thread (much like its own retrospective) instead of resurrecting the old one. How good were the jedi in Star Wars Galaxies? Were they unstoppable in battles?

The NGE ruined it for almost everybody.

I used to like being a politician anyways.

EDIT: After watching it, it's kind of sad to think how many people stopped playing after the NGE, one being myself.

The community is just a shadow of its former self now. Nothing more.

Everything ruined everything for everybody.

That's all I have to say. Otherwise I'll end up killing everyone I see today.

That game was the worst 9 months of my life. Worse than that time I was pregnant with octuplets.

SWG is a failure. When it started, it had potential, then SOE just...made it way, way way worse.

There's a revival project going on right now, as mentioned in other threads. It's kinda near completion and has a strong, active community to help developers engineer a new SWG game that was pre NGE and pre CU.

Oh yes, and it's legal since they're the ones writing the code for it and not stealing it from SOE.

Yeah I played for a year and never went back.

Then I played WoW for a year and never came back.

Then i played Eve Online for 6 months and intended to never come back.

Now I log into Eve Online every day, if not to check prices and skill changes and what not. Been playing for over 2 years now (including an 8-month gap, so say...1.5 years playing time?).

I played SWG for a year.

Okay, so I wasn't exactly wunderbar in ground shooting, only being a master carbineer and weaponsmith, but damn I enjoyed it. It did crack me up somewhat when we did stuff like the Geonosian caves or whatever and everyone was kitted out in their equipment and then there was me, Captain Comparatively Useless with just body armour, a bandolier and a carbine. And some fetching trousers.

Still, I wasn't so bad at JTL. Probably the most fun in SWG I had.

Not to derail (completely), but isn't the new KOTOR supposed to be a MMORPG too?

I believe so Chewbubba. Some people were angered by the announcment since they wanted a traditional single player KotoR. What did you do as a politician in Star Wars Galaxies?

I never played it, and if the new KOTOR is an MMORPG too, I'll probably pass on that as well. Too much of a time consumer for me.

I remember getting one of my screenshots on the Picture of the day. That was cool.

I had a sweet Pistoleer/ BH pistol line going that was fun to play. DOT'ed like crazy.

also swordsman/fencer/some polearm was powerful enough to stand up to some jedi once the first update hit (the one before NGE), THAT was fun
