Does anyone have a direct link to smitfraudfix?

I think I've got the Smitfraud virus...it's the one where my desktop is changed to "Warning, you're computer is infected!" and I can't get to any pages with smtifraudfix or spybot or anything.

Well, one thing is for sure, it's not a STD. :v:

But to be serious, I got a form of the Smitfraud virus on a desktop that wasn't in my care for months. But the thing "died out" when I noticed Windows Update wasn't on for some reason and download the updates.

This one is a real pain to remove. Or at least, it was when a few computers at work got it a couple of months ago. Once I found a good step-by-step guide to removing it it went fine.

It will also likely show as a false-positive from here on out.

If he got it in the first place, do you really think he's going to remove it correctly?

Hm, maybe it's not Smitfraud. I'm not getting any popups, but just the 'your computer is boned' desktop that I can't change, and the inability to access lavasoft etc.

Is it that Antivirus 2009 one? My mom got that.

I don't think so...

It also changed the Windows clock to 24-hour time. This is bizarre.

Superantispyware.

Best program ever created. Works like a charm for me on everything I used to get.

The best alternative is use Opera. Never had problems since.

combofix didn't appear to do anything. A small progress bar that says 'combofix' starts up, gets to 100% and then closes. I'm currently trying to get into safe mode, but XP keeps crashing on bootup.

Windows Malicious Software Remover is given an update every month through Windows Update and it runs then. It probably killed it.

Is there anything special I have to do to wipe my computer and reinstall XP besides boot up with the CD in the drive?
