This is talking about the '05 Williams BMW but it's some pretty cool info

Quote:
1Tb of data has been used to design the FW27a. That's almost equivalent to 70,000 volume's of the encyclopedia Britannica. Each modeling program has half a billion points of information.

250,000 man hours of design time has been spent on the FW27a and a further 250,000 man hours in fabrication and build.

4,500 production drawings have been produced in the design of the chassis, End to end these drawings would stretch for 5,350Km with a further 4,000 expected to be produced for the entire cycle of the FW27 and by the end of the season drawings would span from London to Buenos Aires.

Now for the performance related stuff:
- Min. weight in race trim is 600Kg and these cars typically carry 50-70Kg of ballast.
The metal Tungsten is used as ballast for it's size to weight ratio.
- From a standing start 0-200Km/h takes approximately 5 seconds.
- Deceleration forces on board will reach 5g.
- Brake temps to generate 5g deceleration will reach 600 DegC in 1 second.
- At 250Km/h the downforce acting on the car will exceed 1,500Kg.
- The new BMW P84/5 engine alone contains 5,000 individual components and takes 100 man hours to build.
- The BMW exhaust gas temps reach 950 DegC.
- Maximum piston acceleration is 10,000g
- Peak piston speed is 40m per second
- The complete engine weighs less than 90Kg.
- Historically, BMW have produced 200 engines per season.
- Carbon fibre clutch diameter is 100mm.

For each second @19,000 RPM the BMW engine has:
- 316.7 Crankshaft revolutions.
- 1,583.3 Ignition sparks.
- 9,500 Electronic engine speed measurements.
- 550 Litres of air drawn in.

Around Albert Park on a typical lap there's:
- 56 Gear changes, That's 3248 shifts per race.
- 10 Brake applications per lap, That's 580 per race.
- 3.4 Litres of fuel used per lap, That's around 200 litres for the 300Km event.

I remember reading that an 06 F1 car (the last year with V10s before they reduced the engine capacity from 3L to 2.4L) could do 0-200km/h and brake back to 0km/h all in under 7 seconds.

Now that is an impressive stat. Count out 7 seconds and imagine goingfrom stationary to twice as fast as you do on the highway and back to stationary within that time.

Dude the freaking steering wheels alone for those cars are a small fortune.

When I was at Silverstone for a Tire testing day I got shown around the Danka Arrows team garage, they gave me the steering wheel, as it put it in my hand, it was,
"Guess How Much"
"Uh, £15,000?"
"nope"
"£25,000?"
"£200,000" he said

I nearly dropped it there and then, the tyres are like £1000 each, it was insane, very cool, but very mad.
Flying over there some were...

so you americans have F1 now?
I'm glad, F1 is far superior to that indy car rubbish, driving round in circles.

F1 cars are SO hard to drive too. Seriously, you have be both perfection of mind AND body to actually race one of them.
Code:
if(getThingFlags(source) & 0x8){
  do her}
elseif(getThingFlags(source) & 0x4){
  do other babe}
else{
  do a dude}

I've watched Indycar coverage when they were on a "real" racetrack. :confused:
nope.

Sometimes they do left and rights, but for example the most popular indy race, the Indianapolis 500, is a giant oval.

I still find it entertaining to watch reguardless. But yes, F1 is a far superior. As is things like the rolex cup races and such.

Would the Indianapolis 500 be raced at the same place as the American Grand Prix in Indiana?
nope.

Baconfish, yes.. I went to it 4 years in a row =]

IRL isn't bad, yes they race on ovals but they still race on a lot of good road and street circuits.. Like Mid-ohio

But back in the day I lived and breathed CART and Champ Car

the first race i watched was the day senna died.

after all these years i finally went to montreal with some friends. we camped in a big camper trailer at the montreal kao site.

it was awesome! i've been to 10 or so toronto indy's but the f1 race was so much cooler.

our winner and poor hamilton.
