Using it right now. It's got a ways to go before competing with Firefox (extensions, mostly) but the prospect of a Webkit-based browser on Windows that isn't Safari is quite nice.

Because Safari sucks.

More than tofu.

Maybe not that much.

But close.

It's also nice on windows because it's the only browser with nice text rendering, the problem is that it's not native UI.

You mean wretched. I hate that style of rendering, it gives me headaches.

When I was searching for this earlier I came across a 3d modeling program call SketchUp that google offers. I think it's geared more towards architectural designs.

Yeah, SketchUp is meant for design. It's fairly powerful but it is not a CAD program at all. It's really for design purposes, and it excels at that.

It's great for quick prototype stuff. I used it once to decide how I wanted to arrange the furniture in my living room. It wasn't free before Google bought it, my sister used to use it before for school (interior architecture), so you can thank them for that.

I'm enjoying it so far... seeing my recently added bookmarks is neat.
2008-09-02, 7:41 PM #15
ahhh... so i'm doing a bit of research on this BMW Gina thang, had a blog open with links to a bunch o' pics... accidentally closed the tab, which also closed the blog... opened a new tab ctrl+t, clicked it on the 'recently closed tab' bar, and voila! very fast and easy. better yet, when i pressed the back button from that window, instead of taking me back to the 'new tab' screen, it went back to the blog window i'd reached the photo from.

meow meow
2008-09-02, 7:44 PM #16
Firefox has had 'recently closed tabs' in the history for awhile.
2008-09-02, 7:44 PM #17
Saber -- you can actually do that in FF too with Ctrl+Shift+T :p

Whoops JM beat me to it

Ctrl+Shift+T is "Re-open last closed tab" (with back/forward history, etc. intact)

Is that since 3, or even before? I've never bothered too much with customizing FF, or even looking into features like that.

Chrome kinda tossed it in my face, and I was like kthx.

What the **** is with this custom window ****? Was there something wrong with it using a normal window like everything else? IT DOES NOT MATCH MY THEME.

Since 3, though the Tab Mix Plus extension has had it's own (better) implementation since FF2.

2008-09-02, 9:32 PM #25
I don't have that extension, and I have it in 2.x

It's custom because the tab bar IS the title bar, something that wouldn't work with windows themes...

My big complaint is that I can't put the tab bar at the bottom, where I like it. I have a drop down quick launch bar at the top of my screen, and trying to click tabs sometimes triggers that. I also don't like that I can't have a permanent status bar instead of that silly popup thing at the bottom.

Although I do like that it makes the actual web page as big on the screen as possible, and that it can import all my bookmarks and things from Firefox. Being able to open the program and see all my favorites and my shortcut bar exactly as they were in Firefox makes it really easy to switch.

Another feature I really like is the incognito feature, plus the ability to create shortcuts to web applications. It's nice being able to have a GMail window all on it's own, without browser junk getting in the way.

Hmmm, it doesn't seem to do well with my dual monitor setup. On the smaller screen it grows as big as the larger screen when I maximize the window.

It automatically picks up sites that have OpenSearch descriptors and gives you the option to use the sites own search engine if you type in their domain then hit tab. It was problematic on en.wikipedia.org at first but it seems to be working for me now.

Wow, this thing is so fast. I like how textboxes change colour when I'm typing in them.

At the very least, they should be using an XP style on XP rather than mimicing vista, and they should be using the system colors.

If they did it right, they would load the dxuidiag themselves, and then custom themes would 'just work'.

Resizing text boxes on websites is just so cool.

Yes, because it's not like any MICROSOFT program would do such a thing.

There's a "Preferences" text file in the profile folder, but it doesn't have any more options than the UI exposes.

I don't know what you're talking about... and neither does Google... dxuidiag?

I just found a neat little thing... Task Manager has a system menu option for Always on top built-in.
