Defend Helm's Deep or attempt to raid it!

o <---the circles are the puny humans and elves standing their ground
x <---the x's are the forces of evil raiding Helm's Deep
_ <--- these are pieces of the wall. Move from the spot you're on to create a wall piece if you are defending, move on a wall piece to destroy it if you are raiding.
| <---these indicate the side of the indestructible mountain. Players can't make or destroy them.

Move on top of a player to kill them. You can move one space per turn, and you must wait two (2) posts before making another turn.

Those at Helm's Deep win if they can survive for 3 days. The forces of evil win if they kill all those inside Helm's Deep.

I'm giving until Monday (Sept. 8th) at 8PM for people to declare whether they'll be defending Helm's Deep or not, after which no more players can join to defend. Anyone can join to aid the forces of evil throughout the game. After 8PM, I'll start up the game.

I'll be playing as a puny human. :)

(I'm taking a few liberties with the story premise to make this work. Take this time to also ask for clarification on rules. If need be, I'll post some examples).

Wait, so ANYONE can be a force of evil? How is that fair that they don't have to sign up?

Take your pick of answers:
a) It's not fair -- it's simulating the story and the hopelessness of those at Helm's Deep.
b) Slow movement + having only 3 days will likely make it a lot more difficult to be aggressive enough to succeed in time.
c) This isn't designed to be TF2. It's supposed to be harder for the defenders. Unless the proportion of players end up being more than 5 raiders for every 1 defender, it shouldn't be impossible though.

We'll see how this first game goes. If indeed it's glaringly obvious that it doesn't work, then I'll have players sign up for both sides next time. One of the big complaints that I got about Cold War Capitalism, however, was that it went off before people could join. I tried designing the game to optimize players joining the game. Again, we'll see how well this works out.

Code:

                o o
_______________________________________________|
_______________________________________________|
_______________________________________________|
x x xx
The following is how the game could start. Let's say one of the elves posts first. He decides to make more wall.

Code:

                o _o
_______________________________________________|
_______________________________________________|
_______________________________________________|
x x xx
Then one of the orcs posts to destroy a wall. It goes like so:

Code:

                 o _o
 _______________________________________________|
 _______________________________________________|
 x______________________________________________|
                     x xx
That first elf can't move again until someone else posts. Another orc moves in to destroy more wall.

Code:

                  o _o
  _______________________________________________|
  _______________________________________________|
  x_______________________x______________________|
                       x x
The first elf can now post again, so he makes more wall.

Code:

                                           o
                   o __
   _______________________________________________|
   _______________________________________________|
   x_______________________x______________________|
                        x x
And so on. There will probably be a little more room for the defenders to work with, depending on how many there are. Forces of good won't be able to destroy walls (thus, you'll have to be careful not to trap yourself or other players), and forces of evil won't be able to make walls.

Does that make sense?

Grr... looks like I'll have to figure out some way to fix spaces in place. I thought the code tags would do that. Hrm.

Or I just may eliminate the side walls. That'd probably make things simpler.

EDIT: Yeah, side walls will just be eliminated (I'll probably use them as indestructable "mountain walls" on the right side. We'll see.)

There were in the movies. And I defer all cannon inconsistencies to the movies because they don't bore me to tears.

Just wondering if we have any people interested in playing the evil/attacking side or if I should scrap the game.
