Do you know what a Sampo is? (MST3k)

Yesterday I decided to re-watch one of my favorite Mystery Science Theatre 3000 episodes, The Day The Earth Froze, partially inspired by a fellow goon named Annakie (who is the main character). Of course, when I was watching it when I was younger, I didn't realize half the stuff in the film, but now I just find it funny :D It also, I found out, is based off the Finnish national epic, Kalevala.

Here's part 3 of the 10 part episode on YouTube. This part is where the movie The Day The Earth Froze starts.

You can start at the beginning of the episode here, if you're really interested in watching the whole thing.

Anyways, post MST3k related comments/youtube videos/favorite episodes. In fact, post anything related to the mocking of b movies. Just don't post what a Sampo is. f you know what a Sampo is, write it on a piece of paper, throw it away and then try not to think about it. You'll be glad you did.

For those who don't know what MST3k is:

One of my favorite has to be the terrible spy and sci-fi hybrid movie Agent from H.A.R.M. If you are wondering, I don't think the movie ever explains what H.A.R.M. stands for. But as a mst3k episode, it's great, and its even on Youtube. Thank god for the internet:

part 2:

for starters. The guy loaded the whole episode on Youtube.

MST3K is one of the greatest shows ever. I just watched Manos: The Hands Of Fate on it not too long ago and it was truly incredible.

Massassian's Finns know what a sampo is. I told them to write it down on a piece of paper, throw it away, and then try not to think about it.

THe only one I've really seen was the movie. I think. Which took the piss out of This Island Earth.

I was mildly surprised that it was an actual film, and moreso that my dad had a figurine of the mutant.

There's a torrent on piratebay with every episode and every special including the season 0 when they were on KTMA. it's 130GB
Currently I have seasons 4, 8,9,10 and about 2/3s of season 6 as well as all the specials, the movie, and one or two from several of the other seasons.

Best episode ever is definatly "Time Chasers"

-"He died as he lived, mud stained and splaying!"

me & some friends would get together every week and watch it until we all graduated & half of us moved away.

I don't really need you to post the episodes, considering I'm going to be buying it anyway. Isn't this copyright infringement, anyway? Why is this on youtube?

Probably, but considering that MST3k team fell apart, I don't think many of them care that much.

Besides it was not really a money making project anyways, they did it for kicks. They also have tons of episodes.
2008-09-18, 2:21 PM #16
Yeah. I think they had a 1000+ episodes. And the mst3k "movie," which many fans didn't even know existed.

They also dealt with around 3 cable TV channels.

Ok. That makes sense. So I have 'Space Mutiny' on my list of 10, can you suggest 9 more especially awesome MST3K episodes? I've seen various ones (and not all were especially good. most! but not all) but I don't remember the titles. There was some Finnish fantasy one with some girl running through a snow-covered forest, it was hilarious.

A Sampo is when you get to try a little piece of something before you decide to buy a bigger version of it.

This Island Earth is my favorite. Whenever I can't think of a name for something, I turn to Space Mutiny's list.

The problem is that alot of these terrible movies have such generic names. It's hard to recommend which episodes are the greatest because the movie they are based off of have such forgettable titles.
