Got a Zune? Even if you don't, you can at least get the software and use a Zune Pass, all so:

You can join the social!

The social is essentially a fancy last.fm, with feeds, recommended music from your habits and friends habits, play counts, etc.

What really separates this from last.fm is the tight integration with the zune software and devices. Anything you play in Zune or the device is synced.

Anyway, enough advertising, post your profile URL so we can friend eachother and make this thing really useful :p

Unless you're outside NA. :(
Looks like we're not going down after all, so nevermind.

Or Windows.

Hi, I'm Vincent Valentine and I'm here to talk to you about some of the exciting new features the team at Microsoft has brought to Zune!

  • Expanded wireless capabilities. You can now access the Zune Markeetplace and Social from any wireless hotspot with your Zune device!
  • Radio tagging. Unlike that other mp3 player, the Zune has a built-in FM Radio. You can tag songs while listening to a station, and when you enter a hotspot or sync, your Zune can automatically download or purchase those songs.
  • Picks. This new page in the Marketplace recommends new music for you based on your listening habits!
  • Channels. Free for any Zune Pass subscriber, channels are playlists updated periodically. Subscribe to any channel to have new songs delivered to you regularly!

Many of these features revolve around the Zune Pass. The Pass is a subscription based plan for $15 a month gives you access to over 3 million songs! For the price of one CD a month, you have access to hundreds of thousands of albums to download at your leisure.

Oh, here's my social page: http://social.zune.net/profile/home.aspx

Note: Zune's have a bit of trouble with Recent tracks right now, so please don't laugh at my Kidz Bop. It was one time. :(

So.. it's like.. last.fm.. that you have to pay for / own a zune / use windows to use? And it has less people? And it's run by Microsoft?

By the way, last.fm syncs with what you listen to on the iPod / iphone. Did I mention it's free and not run by microsoft?

Last I checked it does not sync with all iPods cause iPods don't keep track of what people listen to. iPhones are a different story.

And Social doesn't cost anything. And being run by MS doesn't make it evil.

Oh, and did I mention it does a much better job of recommendations than last.fm?

Plus it's pretty.

I listened to 4 new albums so far today!

I was skeptical at first.....but it's pretty awesome. Makes my Zune a lot more useful. I signed up for the 14 day Zune Pass trial, and it's ****ing fantastic.

Uh... yes they do. Last time I plugged in my ipod, lastfm alerted me about what tracks were going to be scrobbled.

im using Zune on my desktop right now. I havent tried out the suggestion feature yet, so I dont know about that yet.

It does run better than itunes on my desktop, but I miss the ability to share libraries. (And to share libraries from computers not on this network :ninja:)

Oh and the whole fact that its just not available for OSX sucks. I would be more interested in it if I could do that.

Yes, coolmatty, it scrobbles ipod info, including time / date. I know because every time I plug my iPod in (Once a month or so) it tells me several hundred tracks that need to be scrobbled.

My last.fm profile shows what I've been listening to on my iPod Shuffle, it gets synced when it's in the dock.

I've been using my friend's iPod while my Zune is being repaired (I dropped it). I can't freaking stand it. Everything annoys me, from iTunes, to the scroll wheel, to podcasts.

Scroll wheel = seks

You only think that cause you haven't used the Zune's touchpad yet. :p

That scroll wheel has no accuracy whatsoever.

Well I know mine is kind of a ***** because I put a plastic protector on it, it would defenitely be nice if they were more sensitive from the get go.

It just takes forever to scroll though large lists... with Zune, A to Z is flick... flick... tap.
2008-09-18, 11:58 AM #26
Well I know with my ipod if you scroll fast enough it starts to sift through them alphabeticially, thus making it super quick to navigate. Not saying this is any bit superior as compared to a zune, but bringing to light a feature you might not have been aware of.

I've defenitely got a ****ton on my 160gb. Its about halfway full.

Yeah I have a 30GB Zune which unfortunately won't hold all my music. I need the 80GB really.
2008-09-18, 1:24 PM #28
I've got 3GB left on my 80GB Zune...:(

I believe my brother (Nubs) has 2GB free on his 160Gb iPod haha
