I played the demo and liked it, but I am unwilling to pay 50 € new for it, what are good, similar games? Maybe a bit older so they cost less

the thing is call of duty 4 is in a way in a class of it's own...

most games that give you modern weapons and terrorists to shoot seem to either go slow paced tactical shooter or fast paced excessively generic shooter that should be in the bargain bin

that said you could try shadow ops red mercury... it's like a bargain bin call of duty 4 released 3 years before CoD4... modern weapons, terrorists trying to blow stuff up, not a tactical shooter... but quite generic...

America's Army is awesome (especially because it's free!). Its more tactical but some maps can provide some quick, frantic firefights.

COD4 is ONLY worth the money if you play a lot of multiplayer. An average gamer can beat the SP in under 4 hours.... They should've mentioned that on the box.

The Rainbow Six series is still a lot of fun. I mean the originals, not this Vegas trash. Rainbow Six, Rogue Spear and Raven Shield are great. They all have several expansions, too. You can probably find all three of them in some platinum pack thing online.

Ghost Recon is also excellent. Not sure about Advanced Warfighter. The original Ghost Recon and its expansions were excellent, and had such well done environments that they still look nice.

Team Fortress 2, maybe? The best multiplayer game on the PC right now IMO.

While I agree that you should not get this game just for the SP(the MP is ****ing awesome), it takes more than 4 hours if you're playing on a difficulty other than Recruit.

Just buy CoD4 already. The multiplayer alone is well worth the money.

Dude, I'm second prestige on the 360. I have all the achievements. And I am buying it again on steam just so I can play it on the laptop.

...Like I said before, don't be a panzy. Play it on the hardest difficulty (Veteran). Then we'll see if it takes 4 hours.

Average gamers don't play on the hardest setting though. I never play a game on the hardest setting my first run through, and I only come back and play it on hard if it was really that good. Which this CODs SP really lacks replay IMO.

o.O

I replayed it two other times. Sometimes by accident (I enabled cheats, and I can't get achievements with them on).

This is what I do. I like to get a feel for the AI first. Then I can determine if hard mode is really "hard" or just cheap AI with a massive advantage.

I got the CoD war chest back last August for only 40 bucks. It includes both 1 and 2 and the expansion for 1. Pretty good deal I say. I've already completed 1 and 2 but I'm still on the Russian campaign in the expansion.

Like the original UT game bots? Godlike bots always get headshots...

Lets not even talk about UT godmode bots -.-

effing November is nearly impossible with godlike bots.

but I find AI to be the most cheap/annoying when they play the game like your obnoxious 12 year old brother using Eddie Gordo in Tekken to beat you. For example, in Onimusha, the soul suckers, when you play on hard they grab your hand ALL the time with no time to recoup and attack them. Grab, shake off, grab, shake off. Its just downright obnoxious. Or any of the Warriors series, in this case Samurai Warriors, the enemy officer will knock you down with a power attack, the minute your on your feet again you get knocked down by the same move. Now repeat this process several times. Thus your unable to attack for a good 2 minutes and your lifebar is significantly chipped away. I don't find as many issues with FPS AI, but there are some. In UT, any bot who you've made swiss cheese out of with the minigun, and then served a face full of flak, and still lives, is most defenitely a "OMFGWALLHAKKER", especially considering with 199 health and full armor/shields, one or two shots of well placed face flak will make you a steaming pile of USDA sirloin.

What? I played it on the normal difficulty and it took me around 8 hours. The single player campaign is great; I actually purchased the game solely for that before I was drawn into multiplayer (Call of Duty 4 is my first online console game).

Oh man lol, this is a tough one. COD4 is a pretty unique game from what I've played, and the only thing that you'll get that comes close is COD2 or COD6 (seeing as how both are made by Infinity Ward). Other then that I have no ideas for you.

I played through the CoD4 Sp demo, and it felt *really* scripted. It was as if half of the difficulty was trying to figure out where I should go to hit the right trigger. The regenerating health and infinity respawing enemies really killed any chance that game had for me. It's just a bad way to design a game; it's not dynamic enough to be convincing for a broad enough range of play styles.

I can understand why some people don't like the regenerating health, but the constantly respawning enemies is great. It makes you actually have to participate in pushing the battle forward.

I think when it comes to CoD4 SP, it's pretty good for an FPS, but when compared to CoD1 and 2, it is probably the lesser of the three.

I love the Russian levels and the whole photorealism thing, you know. And playing it on veteran is a whole new challenge. I recently got my brother to start playing on veteran, and he says he is liking it better, because bullets actually kill when on that difficulty. You know, like in the real world.
